Role Summary
The Test Team Lead is responsible for leading a team of Test Analysts and Engineers while overseeing the planning, coordination, execution, and governance of testing activities across enterprise projects and business-as-usual (BAU) initiatives. This role combines strong people leadership, stakeholder management, technical testing expertise, and strategic planning to ensure high-quality delivery outcomes.
The successful candidate will drive test excellence, foster innovation and automation, manage resource allocation, and act as a trusted advisor to project and business stakeholders. The role requires a strong understanding of enterprise systems, non-functional testing, observability tools, and testing best practices within complex technology environments.
This role is a 12-month Fixed Term Contract.
Key Responsibilities
Test Leadership & Delivery Management

Own and manage enterprise-wide testing schedules, planning, and coordination for major projects, releases, and technology changes.

Lead the successful delivery of testing activities across multiple concurrent initiatives while ensuring adherence to quality standards and delivery timelines.

Manage BAU testing commitments and effectively allocate resources to meet competing priorities and deadlines.

Develop, review, and approve testing strategies, test plans, test execution reports, and test closure documentation.

Identify, assess, and proactively mitigate testing risks, dependencies, and implementation conflicts that could impact project outcomes.
Stakeholder & Governance Management

Represent the testing function in cross-functional forums, project governance meetings, release planning sessions, and change management discussions.

Provide clear visibility of testing progress, risks, issues, and resource requirements to senior stakeholders.

Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Developers, Architects, Product Owners, and Operations teams to ensure testing activities are aligned with business objectives.

Drive effective communication and escalation management to address delivery challenges.
Team Leadership & People Management

Lead, mentor, coach, and develop a team of Test Analysts and Test Engineers.

Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to understand team challenges, provide guidance, and support career development.

Foster a high-performance, collaborative, and continuous improvement culture within the team.

Align individual performance goals and development plans with organisational objectives and strategic priorities.

Support recruitment, onboarding, capability uplift, performance management, and succession planning activities.
Planning & Resource Management
-
Drive monthly planning sessions, sprint planning activities, and JIRA retrospective reviews to improve forecasting accuracy and delivery effectiveness.

Collaborate with delivery leads and stakeholders to anticipate future workloads and proactively manage resource demand.

Monitor team capacity, utilisation, and skill distribution to ensure optimal workforce planning.
Quality Engineering, Innovation & Automation

Champion quality engineering best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.

Drive innovation through test automation, AI-assisted testing, process optimisation, and tooling enhancements.

Identify opportunities to improve testing efficiency, coverage, reliability, and overall delivery quality.

Promote the adoption of modern testing frameworks, automation solutions, and observability practices.
Technical Leadership
-
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for one or more business or technology domains.

Design and review non-functional testing strategies including performance, resilience, scalability, availability, and reliability testing.

Analyse application performance and system behavior using enterprise observability and monitoring platforms.

Develop actionable insights from testing and production telemetry data to improve system quality and stability.

Collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to understand system designs and identify quality risks throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.

ISTQB certification or equivalent testing certification preferred.

Relevant certifications in performance testing, automation, Agile, or observability platforms are advantageous.
