AI Engineer

Join our Security team within Auto & General's Technology Division, a specialist team responsible for protecting and enabling our cloud-native AI platforms. You'll be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking group that sits at the intersection of Infrastructure, IT Operations, AI Development, and Security. Working closely with data scientists, application engineers, and product teams, you'll help shape the future of AI delivery at A&G. The role:
As an AI Engineer, you'll design, build, and evolve the cloud platforms and automation that power Auto & General's AI strategy. Operating in an Agile environment, you'll remove friction from the AI delivery lifecycle, enabling faster experimentation and reliable production deployments in a regulated enterprise setting.

Design, support, and maintain cloud-native AI platforms on GCP and AWS, balancing flexibility for experimentation with production-grade controls

Build and evolve Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and shared platform services using Terraform and Python

Partner with engineering, data, and product teams to embed platform, security, and operational best practices from the outset

Contribute to the strategic evolution of Auto & General's cloud and AI platform roadmap

Review code and establish best practices for AI platform engineering and DevOps

Support the organisation's commitment to APRA's regulatory framework, contributing to robust risk management and complianceTranslate short-term production fixes into sustainable, long-term improvements

Champion DevSecOps practices, embedding security into delivery pipelines from day one
What experience you'll bring

Proven experience in cloud platform engineering with a strong focus on GCP (AWS experience valuable but GCP expertise prioritised)

Expert-level proficiency with Terraform for infrastructure as code

Strong Python skills for AI tooling and automation

Working understanding of JavaScript-based programming for platform integration and front-end tools

Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerisation, serverless architectures, and observability in distributed systems

Security-first mindset with experience embedding DevSecOps practices into delivery workflows

Clear and confident communication skills, comfortable engaging with technical peers and senior stakeholders

Methodical problem-solver who takes ownership, iterates quickly, and learns continuously

Exposure to AI platforms, data pipelines, or large language models (highly regarded)

Genuine passion for cloud engineering, DevOps, automation, and AI-enabled systems

Resilience and adaptability in complex, fast-changing environments
Location
Toowong - Close to a variety of public transport and easy parking options, the Toowong office has excellent end of trip facilities (including secure bike storage and showers), outdoor spaces and plenty of modern collaborative areas to work and connect with colleagues. Conveniently based at Toowong Village tower with views of the mountains and the Brisbane River, our location is only 4 km from the city and provides access to retail, restaurants and other amenities.
