Join Collingwood’s Data, Analytics and Innovation team on a 3-month contract with potential to extend.
We’re looking for a junior to mid-level data engineer with solid experience building and maintaining data pipelines, ideally with Snowflake and Git based version control. A strong understanding of system architecture, integrations and API connectors is highly valued. You’ll need strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
This is a great opportunity to build your skills in a fast paced, high impact environment while working alongside a passionate team at one of the AFL’s biggest clubs.
About the Collingwood Football Club
Collingwood Football Club (CFC) was founded in 1892.
Local residents, community and business leaders and politicians all hoped that having their own football club could help bring a measure of pride to a downtrodden suburb.
In 2026, CFC is one of the great icons of Australian sport. Our history spans 130 years, 16 premierships and more finals appearances than any other club. Most importantly, Collingwood has grown from being a football club to a sports club with a commitment to our community.
The opportunity
Reporting to the Data Engineer Lead, the Data Engineer will work on the systems that power football performance, business intelligence and fan engagement at the club.
You will get real exposure to how data and engineering decisions translate into outcomes on the field and across the business, working closely with the Data Engineer Lead and the Head of Data, Analytics and Innovation on a fast moving, high impact platform.
The role also offers genuine exposure to software development practice alongside core data engineering work.
Key responsibilities include:
- Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot existing data pipelines, resolving job failures, data quality issues, and integration errors as they arise.
- Own BAU tasks delegated by the Data Engineer Lead, including scheduled pipeline checks, minor enhancements, and routine maintenance work.
- Support the build out of modules within our internal systems and platforms across multiple departments, following established build patterns and design standards.
- Work within existing data models and conventions, including Snowflake.
- Triage and resolve smaller bugs and tickets independently, escalating only what genuinely needs Lead-level input.
- Contribute to code reviews, testing new implementations and validating ETL pipelines.
- Documentation and visualisation of new and future pipelines and platforms.
Success in the role
Success in this role can be defined by having built strong working relationships with the data team, contributing reliably across both data engineering and software development tasks, and growing your own skills in the process. By the end of the term, our internal systems and platforms should be more stable and better supported, with a clean handover of any work in progress and clear documentation left behind.
Skills / Experience
To be successful as the Data Engineer, you will be someone who has:
- Junior to mid level experience as a data engineer, with solid grounding in building and maintaining data pipelines.
- Experience working with cloud data warehouses, ideally Snowflake.
- Comfortable working with Git based version control and code review processes.
- Some background in software development, ideally React and TypeScript, is highly regarded but not essential.
- Able to work independently, strong problem solving skills with minimal day-to-day oversight.
- Experience in sports, fan engagement or similar data driven environments is a plus, but not essential.
Football Clubs are fast-paced environments but you will engrain yourself into the Collingwood culture, remain agile, adaptable, and consistently champion our Company values of DO BETTER, SIDE BY SIDE, A NEST FOR ALL and FLY HIGHER.
What we offer
As a valued staff member of our Sporting Club you will be a part of a fun, inclusive and flexible work environment:
- 10 Gifted Leave days every year (on top of your Annual Leave)
- Access to state of art High Performance Gym Facility
- Access to Professional Development and Learning Development Courses
- Access to tickets to all AFL and AFLW matches
- Access to exclusive partner offers, the likes of Nike, Emirates, AIA Vitality, La Trobe, CUB Economy, Business Class with Emirates, TaylorMade and KGM
- Opportunities to support with Collingwood community outreach and volunteer programs (Magpie Nest Cafe)
- Behind the scenes access to Match-Day, including the ability to support in on-ground activations
