Description:
About the Role:
Reporting to the Technical Team Lead, the Senior Full-Stack Engineer is a key technical contributor responsible for executing high-quality software delivery across ELMO’s Learning domain. This role requires deep technical expertise in React, Node.js, PHP, and AWS cloud infrastructure. Working closely with the Technical Team Lead, the Senior Engineer participates in architectural decisions, codifies business intent into high-quality code, and actively executes AI-directed development workflows, ensuring both human-written and AI-generated contributions meet the highest standards of safety, security, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities:
The core responsibilities of the Senior Full-Stack Engineer include but are not limited to:
Architecture & Technical Execution
•
Contributes to the technical architecture of the Learning domain, ensuring optimal data flow, robust API design, secure integration patterns, and scalable AWS infrastructure requirements.
•
Assists in producing Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) and comprehensive API specifications.
•
Provides technical feasibility assessments for incoming requirements during planning phases.
•
Partners with the TTL and Product Owner to codify business intent into technically precise, testable specifications ready for implementation.
•
Collaborates with the TTL to refine specifications, ensuring they are precise enough for AI-directed builds before execution begins.
•
Aligns all local technical choices with established architectural standards and the guidance of the Architecture Guild.
•
Actively identifies technical debt within the codebase and works with the TTL to ensure it is prioritized on the roadmap.
AI-Augmented Engineering
•
Executes development tasks against agent orchestration briefs provided by the Technical Team Lead.
•
Effectively structures context and guardrails when interacting with AI coding agents to ensure high-quality delivery.
•
Contributes to the domain's prompt library curation to optimize team-wide engineering efficiency.
•
Maintains strict oversight of AI-generated components, identifying and correcting hallucinations or architectural drift before submission.
Build Quality & Full-Stack Development
•
Develops highly performant, accessible front-end interfaces using React and robust, scalable backend services utilizing Node.js and PHP.
•
Submits all human-written and AI-generated code to rigorous peer review, ensuring it meets ELMO's strict coding, security, and architectural standards.
•
Ensures all code passes automated quality gates, including linting, SAST/DAST, and unit test coverage metrics prior to merge.
•
Takes responsibility for the correctness of implementations against the defined requirements and system architecture.
•
Maintains zero critical/high security vulnerabilities in code delivered to production.
Testing, Validation & Release Safety
•
Writes comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to maintain full test coverage completeness across full-stack applications.
•
Validates non-functional requirements including performance under load, error handling robustness, logging, observability, and AWS infrastructure readiness.
•
Implements the team's feature flag strategy, ensuring all new features are deployed "dark" and prepared for progressive rollout.
•
Monitors post-deployment health metrics (error rates, performance baselines) within 24 hours of every release to ensure rapid rollback execution if required.
Delivery & Team Collaboration
•
Provides accurate development estimations, technical approaches, and work breakdowns for quarterly planning and prioritizing initiatives.
•
Collaborates with the team to achieve OKR delivery and complete roadmap projects within agreed timeframes.
•
Actively participates in the team's on-call rotation and provides swift resolution to production incidents.
•
Fosters cross-training and knowledge overlap within the team to eliminate single points of failure in critical domain areas.
Positional Qualifications, Attributes and Skills
•
Demonstrated experience as a Senior Full-Stack Engineer delivering web applications within complex cloud environments.
•
Strong proficiency in front-end development using React and modern state management.
•
Deep expertise in backend engineering using Node.js and PHP (modern frameworks).
•
Solid experience provisioning, managing, and optimizing applications within AWS environments (e.g., Lambda, ECS, RDS, S3).
•
Proven experience in system and service design, including scalable architecture, design reviews, and established engineering patterns.
•
Demonstrated capability in reviewing, debugging, and refining both human-written and AI-generated code while maintaining high quality standards.
•
Strong technical planning and execution skills, including work breakdown, risk identification, and proactive mitigation of delivery bottlenecks.
•
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with product teams, design, and fellow engineers.
•
Sound judgement in applying AI tools and modern engineering technologies in a practical, sustainable, and architecturally aligned way.
•
Collaborative team member who fosters trust, psychological safety, and a culture of constructive feedback and knowledge sharing.
•
Accountable, outcomes-focused, and calm under pressure when managing production incidents.
Key Performance Indicators/OKRs:
•
Code Standards Compliance: 100% of merged PRs pass automated gates.
•
Security Vulnerability Rate: Zero critical/high vulnerabilities introduced into production.
•
Release Success Rate: Zero rollbacks due to preventable full-stack quality issues.
•
AI Tool Adoption: Achieve 95% daily active usage of designated team AI tools.
•
PR Review Turnaround: Reviews completed within the established team SLA to prevent delivery bottlenecks.
