Senior Utility Locator (Underground Services)

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Utility Locator ready to take the next step in their career. This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape and expand our utility locating services in alignment with our established Survey team. If you’re keen to lead, innovate, and grow this critical service sector, we want to hear from you.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, you’ll play a leading role in our utility survey projects. You’ll be responsible not only for accurately locating underground infrastructure but also for helping to develop and strengthen our capabilities in this space, working closely with our broader surveying team to deliver integrated, high-quality outcomes.

Your Responsibilities

Precisely locate and mark underground services according to Utility Mapping colour code standards
Operate locating tools including EMF detectors, handheld pipe and cable locators, and ground penetrating radar (GPR)
Gather, record, and manage field data to meet project deliverables
Interpret existing utility documentation and survey data
Manage field assignments, including preparing BYDA requests and field sketches
Provide mentorship and training to junior or trainee locators
Contribute to the strategic development and growth of utility locating services within CMS Surveyors

What We’re Looking For

Significant hands-on experience using GPR, EMF systems, and utility survey instruments
Concrete scanning experience
Confidence using digital tools and mobile technology in the field
Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the drive to grow and enhance service offerings

Your Responsibilities

Recognised industry qualifications in utility locating (e.g., Certified Locator; NULCA accreditation)
A valid White Card (Construction Induction)
A current driver’s license
