You'll join a small, highly capable engineering team responsible for designing, building and operating the network infrastructure that powers the exchange. From market participant connectivity and low-latency switching through to security, cloud integration and automation, your work will directly influence the performance, resilience and future capability of the NSX.

The Opportunity
As a Senior Network Engineer, you'll be responsible for the design, implementation and ongoing evolution of the critical infrastructure supporting the National Stock Exchange of Australia.
Working alongside highly experienced exchange technologists and market operations, you'll help deliver a modern, highly resilient trading platform where availability, performance and security are paramount.
This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone who enjoys owning technical outcomes, improving systems through automation and working in environments where milliseconds matter.
What You'll Be Doing
Trading Infrastructure
- Design, build and operate the network infrastructure supporting Australia's next generation trading platform.
- Engineer resilient connectivity for market participants, brokers, vendors, market data providers and exchange services.
- Support exchange connectivity including order entry, market data distribution and post-trade integration.
- Design and optimise low-latency network architectures for mission-critical trading environments.
- Ensure the highest levels of availability, resilience and operational performance across production infrastructure.
Network Engineering
- Design, implement and maintain enterprise-grade Arista switching environments.
- Engineer and support BGP routing, multicast networking, IPSec VPNs and secure customer connectivity.
- Design highly available firewall architectures using Palo Alto and Fortinet platforms.
- Monitor, analyse and continually improve network performance, latency and capacity.
- Lead troubleshooting of complex network incidents and perform detailed root cause analysis.
Linux & Platform Engineering
- Administer and optimise Red Hat Enterprise Linux infrastructure supporting exchange services.
- Develop automation using Python and Bash to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual processes.
- Support infrastructure-as-code and configuration management practices across the technology environment.
- Collaborate with software engineering teams to deliver infrastructure supporting modern exchange services.
Engineering Excellence
- Participate in architecture decisions for future exchange infrastructure.
- Lead infrastructure deployments, production changes and technology upgrades.
- Contribute to disaster recovery, cyber resilience and business continuity initiatives.
- Mentor other engineers and promote engineering best practices throughout the organisation.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve automation, observability and operational excellence.

Essential Experience
Trading & Financial Markets
- Experience supporting exchange technology, electronic trading platforms or capital markets infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of the end-to-end trading lifecycle, including order management, execution, market data and post-trade processing.
- Experience supporting customer-facing market connectivity and exchange participant networks.
- Understanding of latency-sensitive systems and the operational requirements of financial market infrastructure.
Networking
- Expert-level experience with Arista networking technologies, including EOS.
- Strong experience designing and operating enterprise BGP environments.
- Extensive experience with multicast networking.
- Strong understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking, routing, switching and network optimisation.
- Experience supporting low-latency production environments where performance is critical.
- Experience designing resilient, highly available network architectures.
Security
- Enterprise experience administering Palo Alto firewalls.
- Enterprise experience administering Fortinet security platforms.
- Strong understanding of IPSec VPN technologies and secure network connectivity.
- Experience implementing network segmentation and security best practices.
Linux & Automation
- Strong administration experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
- Experience supporting Linux infrastructure in production environments.
- Practical scripting experience with Python and Bash.
- Experience automating infrastructure and operational processes.
You'll Excel If You...
- Have previously worked within an exchange, electronic trading firm, financial market infrastructure provider or other latency-sensitive environment.
- Enjoy solving complex networking challenges where reliability and performance are critical.
- Are equally comfortable in a data centre, on a Linux console or analysing packet captures.
- Take ownership of technical outcomes and continually seek ways to improve systems.
- Can communicate effectively with engineers, vendors, customers and business stakeholders.
