The role

We are seeking an Associate Water Resources Engineer wishing to further develop a long-term career with an industry leader. You will work closely with our other specialists in the Water Resources team predominantly on NSW projects, however you will also support the wider ANZ business.

SMEC’s Water Resources team works across a diverse portfolio of projects including flood risk management, waterway management, urban water management and/or rural/irrigation water management. We have a solid pipeline of interesting and challenging projects and an excellent team culture where you will further develop broad capabilities.

With a minimum of 10+ years’ experience, your core responsibilities include:

Technical assessments, and design to support water resource management projects
Peer reviews
Ensure that analysis and design tasks undertaken meet appropriate technical standards and the requirements of the client and SMEC
Mentoring and reviewing the work of junior engineers
Proactively collaborate with appropriate team members, clients and stakeholders to maintain quality, timeliness and coordination of project deliverables
Apply project management principles in carrying out assigned tasks and accomplish project deliverables to the required standard in a timely manner.

With a track record of achievement in a similar role, you will have gained your experience in an engineering design consultancy and have a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change and win new work.

Suitable applicants will have/be:

Bachelor Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
A Minimum of 10+ years' experience in water resources management and/or design
Experienced with a range of hydrology and hydraulic modelling and design software
Familiar with relevant Australian Standards
The ability to lead projects to achieve desirable outcomes
Contribute to business development, industry activities and networking
To have or be working towards obtaining CPEng status
