We are seeking an experienced and reliable Truck Driver (General) with a current Heavy Rigid licence to join our logistics team in Burton. This is a permanent, full-time position operating heavy rigid vehicles to transport chilled, frozen and packaged meat products to customers across metropolitan Adelaide and, when required, regional South Australia.
About the Position
The successful applicant will be responsible for safely operating a heavy rigid truck and completing scheduled deliveries accurately, efficiently and on time. The main duties include:
- Driving heavy rigid trucks to transport chilled, frozen and packaged meat products to customers across metropolitan Adelaide and, when required, regional South Australia.
- Manoeuvring trucks safely into loading bays, customer premises and designated loading and unloading areas.
- Loading and unloading vehicles using pallet jacks, tailgate loaders, trolleys and other approved lifting equipment, observing all safety procedures.
- Estimating and checking load weights to ensure compliance with vehicle load limits, and distributing loads correctly to maintain safe weight distribution.
- Securing, covering and protecting goods to prevent movement, contamination, loss or damage during transportation, and maintaining the cold chain for temperature-controlled products.
- Checking delivery manifests, invoices, run sheets and other loading documentation, and verifying the quantity, condition and temperature of goods during loading and delivery.
- Obtaining signed or electronic proof of delivery and completing scheduled deliveries within allocated timeframes.
- Conducting daily pre-start, in-transit and post-trip vehicle inspections, checking tyres, brakes, lights, refrigeration systems and fluid levels to ensure the vehicle can be driven safely.
- Reporting vehicle defects, maintenance requirements, accidents, delays and safety concerns promptly.
- Maintaining accurate driver logs, delivery records, vehicle inspection reports and fatigue management records.
- Planning and following approved delivery routes, and using handheld devices and company systems to record deliveries.
- Communicating professionally with dispatch staff, warehouse employees, customers and management.
- Maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the truck cabin, cargo area and delivery equipment.
- Complying with road transport laws, fatigue management, chain of responsibility, workplace health and safety, manual handling and food safety requirements.
Essential Requirements
- A current and valid Australian Heavy Rigid driver's licence, with a safe driving history and no current suspension, cancellation, disqualification or condition that would prevent safe and lawful performance of the role.
- At least two years of recent and relevant experience driving heavy rigid trucks, including experience transporting commercial goods (preferably food, refrigerated or temperature-controlled products) and loading, securing and unloading bulky or palletised goods.
- Sound knowledge of heavy vehicle road safety, load restraint, weight distribution, vehicle load limits, fatigue management and chain of responsibility requirements.
- The physical capacity to perform repetitive manual handling, including pushing, pulling, lifting and unloading products.
- Good communication, time management and customer service skills, with the ability to work independently, follow delivery schedules and use electronic delivery systems and handheld devices.
- Availability to work full time Monday to Friday, including early morning starts.
- Full working rights in Australia.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience delivering meat, food or refrigerated products.
- Experience operating refrigerated heavy rigid vehicles.
- Experience using tailgate loaders, pallet jacks and delivery trolleys.
- Relevant Certificate II or Certificate III qualification in driving operations, transport, logistics or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and cold chain procedures.
- Familiarity with metropolitan Adelaide and regional South Australian delivery routes.
Pre-Employment Checks

- Verification of the applicant's Heavy Rigid driver's licence and driving history, confirming the licence is not currently suspended, cancelled or disqualified.
- A Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check or National Police Check.
- A pre-employment medical and functional capacity assessment.
- Drug and alcohol screening, where required under company policy.
- Verification of Australian work rights, employment history and driving experience.
- Reference checks with at least two recent employers or supervisors.
