We are looking for an experienced Data Governance Lead, to establish and scale our enterprise data governance capability. This is a newly created role that will shape how data is managed, governed and trusted across Finance, Marketing, Operations and Digital.

You’ll be responsible for developing governance frameworks, defining data ownership and stewardship models, improving data quality and embedding governance by design into our modern data platform.

This is a unique opportunity to build a governance capability from the ground up and make a lasting impact across the business.

Responsibilities:

Data Governance Strategy & Operating Model

Develop and implement an enterprise-wide data governance framework aligned to industry best practice (e.g. DAMA-DMBOK)
Establish clear data ownership and stewardship models across key business domains
Develop policies, standards and controls for data quality, access, lifecycle management and compliance
Establish and facilitate a Data Governance Council, including decision-making and escalation frameworks
Define critical data elements (CDEs), business glossaries and standardised business definitions

Data Quality & Trust

Define enterprise data quality standards, rules and thresholds for critical data assets
Implement monitoring, validation and issue management processes in partnership with business stakeholders and Data Engineering
Establish root cause analysis and remediation processes to address recurring data issues
Develop and report on data quality KPIs and dashboards
Improve trust, consistency and adoption of data across the organisation

Platform Governance & Microsoft Fabric

Partner with Data Engineering to embed governance controls into our Microsoft Fabric environment
Establish standards for data lineage, metadata management, classification and access controls
Define Data Product Contracts and support the development of certified, trusted data products
Support the implementation and adoption of governance tooling, including Microsoft Purview
Align governance practices with modern data architecture patterns, including lakehouse and medallion approaches

Business Adoption & Data Culture

Drive the adoption of data ownership and stewardship models across business functions
Build and maintain business glossaries and shared data definitions
Deliver data governance and data literacy initiatives across the organisation
Shift accountability for data from an IT-owned model to business-owned stewardship
Enable governed self-service analytics and improve data-driven decision-making

About you

You are equally comfortable working with business leaders and technical teams. You enjoy operating in ambiguous environments, influencing without authority and building capability from the ground up.

You bring:

7–10+ years' experience in Data Governance, Data Management or Data Strategy roles
Demonstrated experience establishing governance capabilities in low-maturity environments
Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks and practices, including DAMA-DMBOK
Experience developing data quality frameworks, data ownership models and business glossaries
Experience implementing governance tooling and processes
Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across both business and technical teams
Excellent communication and change management capability

Highly Regarded

Experience within a QSR or multi-site retail environment
Exposure to lakehouse and medallion architecture patterns
Experience with Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Purview
Understanding of Australian privacy and regulatory requirements
Exposure to AI-enabled data management and governance practices
Experience supporting large-scale data transformation programs
