Full Job Description

Buddy is proud to be partnering with Oho, a workforce safeguarding platform on a mission to improve safety standards for vulnerable people. Oho connects to 23+ government registers to continuously verify right-to-work credentials across the entire employee lifecycle, and today it's trusted by 150+ organisations to help protect 4.2 million vulnerable Australians across five high-stakes sectors.

What you'll do

Oho is currently undertaking a significant technical transformation, rebuilding its product from the ground up and migrating customers to the new platform. As a result, now is an exceptional time to join the business and play a meaningful role in shaping its future.

The opportunity is for an AI Product Engineer to join the small, high-impact team. The role will report directly to the CTO and will play a hands-on part in building Oho's new platform, working across the full stack to ship features that matter.

What you'll do

Own features end to end, from spotting a genuine customer need to shipping across a tech stack covering: Java, Python, TypeScript and React.
Bring real AI fluency to how you and the team works: use AI tools to meaningfully multiply your own output day to day, and look for well-bounded, high-value ways to bring AI into the product itself.
Think and act like a product owner. Propose what's next, work from light specs, get close to customers, and don't wait to be handed detailed requirements.
Help ship a major platform rebuild, joining a small team mid-way through migrating around 150 customers onto Oho's new platform.
Hold yourself to a high bar on accuracy. In this domain, a wrong result isn't just a bug, it can be a safety risk

What you'll bring

Real, hands-on AI proficiency, not just familiarity, with concrete examples of using AI tools to multiply your own output.
Strong product instincts and the ability to translate customer needs into working software with minimal hand-holding.
Comfort across a modern full-stack (Java, Python, TypeScript, React). You don't need to be expert in all four on day one.
High energy and genuine self-direction, comfortable acting independently and owning outcomes.
Nice to have: a background in verification, screening, credentialing or regtech.

Our Tech Stack

You don't need to have mastered everything below. Strong foundations, curiosity, and real AI experience matter more. Tech stack snapshot:

Backend & APIs: Java 17, Spring Boot 3, REST & GraphQL (schema-first), event-driven architecture using Apache Kafka for real-time metadata, and Gradle.
Data & Storage: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and Neo4j for graph relationships.
Frontend: React, TypeScript, Apollo GraphQL, Ant Design, MUI, and Vite.
Integrations & Services: Python 3.11, Node.js/Express with Puppeteer for web automation, plus AWS Lambda for document verification and data ingestion frameworks.
Cloud & Platform: AWS on Kubernetes (K8s), GitOps with ArgoCD, Karpenter autoscaling, Helm, NGINX Gateway, Cloudflare, and Backstage.
Observability & Security: Full telemetry via Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and OpenTelemetry, backed by automated security guardrails (Trivy, Aikido, Gitleaks) to keep shipping safe and fast.
