About Us
Are you ready for a very different experience?
Hamilton Locke is a law firm evolving the traditional approach to corporate and commercial legal services. We are constantly removing the layers of bureaucracy, reacting quickly to change, providing exceptional service, and finding creative solutions to deliver smart advice.
We have offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Newcastle and Auckland, with our clients are located across Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Asia.
We are agile and flexible in our approach, with innovative systems, processes and technology enabling our people to deliver smart and creative client solutions. We customise our delivery teams and models, so clients get exactly what they need from one place, exactly the way it’s needed.
We are an exciting and rapidly growing firm and have consistently been recognised as one of Australia’s fastest growing law firms.
The role
Hamilton Locke is looking for a talented tax lawyer to join our national Tax team which comprises 5 partners and 9 lawyers.
This is an opportunity to work alongside recognised leaders in corporate and transactional tax, international tax, tax controversy, and indirect and state taxes, advising sophisticated businesses, investors, founders, family offices and multinational groups on their most important transactions and disputes.
Our Tax team is known for delivering technically outstanding, commercially pragmatic and innovative advice. We work closely with clients and colleagues across Hamilton Locke, Hamilton Locke Private and the broader HPX Group, helping clients create value rather than simply solve problems.
Depending on your interests and experience, you will work across a broad range of matters, including:
- Corporate and transactional tax advisory.
- M&A structuring, due diligence and post-acquisition integration.
- Cross-border transactions and international tax planning.
- Private capital and family office advisory.
- Transfer pricing and cross-border financing arrangements.
- Tax controversy, audits, disputes and litigation.
- Employee share schemes and complex restructuring projects.
Unlike many tax practices, our work is highly transactional, strategic and client-facing. Our lawyers are encouraged to develop direct client relationships, contribute to business development initiatives and play an active role in the continued growth of the practice.
We are interested in lawyers who:
- Have at least 4 years' PQE in tax from a leading law firm, accounting firm or tax advisory practice.
- Have strong technical tax skills and a genuine enthusiasm for complex tax issues.
- Enjoy working directly with clients and commercial stakeholders.
- Are commercially minded and solutions focused.
- Thrive in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment.
- Want to build a long-term career in a high-growth tax practice.

We are agile and flexible in our approach, with innovative state-of-the-art systems and technology that frees up our team from bureaucracy and administration. We actively develop a culture that supports employee health, wellness and development.
Put simply, we have created a work environment based on respect, trust, development, collaboration and innovation. This allows our people to grow and be the best version of themselves. In turn, this enables our people to do their best work, which ultimately makes our clients happy. This is a win-win-win.
