What to Expect
The Tooling, Process, and Training (TPT) team designs, documents, integrates, and trains on custom service tooling, sustaining hardware, and procedures that support rapid development and maintenance of Tesla’s energy storage solutions. This role leads local service tooling and sustaining mechanical design for the APAC region from problem statement through concept, prototype, pilot, and production while staying aligned with global TPT standards and the latest commercial energy technologies.
We are growing engineering capacity in APAC to strengthen regional ownership of tooling, process, and training. That includes aligning designs with local regulations and compliance, accelerating design adoption across APAC markets, and delivering region-specific customizations for factory, field, and service needs.
What You'll Do-
Mechanical ownership: Own mechanical design, testing, and release of service and installation tooling for commercial energy applications in APAC.
-
Engineering leadership: Lead cross-functional engineering groups (mechanical, electrical/firmware, process, quality, supply chain, and field service) from concept through mid-volume production launch.
-
Test & compliance: Apply engineering first principles to create test and rollout plans; customize validation for APAC regulations and support local compliance release (e.g., UL, CE, RoHS as applicable).
-
TPT readiness: Drive tooling, process, and training readiness for new product launches in APAC so field and factory can commission and service consistently.
-
Field loop & intake systems: Partner with local field service and technical support on documentation and training; capture field feedback and build sustainable systems to intake, specify, prioritize, and track feature and design requests through redesign.
-
DFM/DFA & suppliers: Work with vendors on DFM/DFA to reduce cost and improve performance for higher-volume tooling, with emphasis on local APAC distribution and supplier deliverables.
What You'll Bring-
Chartered path: Chartered Engineer status, or eligibility and intent to pursue certification.
-
Design depth (7+ years): Mechanical design and drafting for equipment or machine design; strong first-principles problem solving under tight schedule constraints.
-
Leadership (7+ years): Led cross-functional engineering teams from concept to mid-volume production, including design reviews, trade-off decisions, and release ownership.
-
CAD & analysis (7+ years): 3D CAD (3DX or SolidWorks preferred); FEA experience preferred.
-
Hands-on build (7+ years): Building and integrating mechanical systems; working familiarity with electrical design fundamentals for mechatronic tooling.
-
Manufacturing (7+ years): Design for low- to mid-volume manufacturing methods including machining, sheet metal forming, injection molding, and welding.
-
Suppliers & process (7+ years): Managing outside suppliers and deliverables; experience building or operating sustainable intake systems for feature and design requests (prioritization, specs, backlog, and redesign planning).
Preferred Skills
-
Energy domain: Battery, energy storage, solar, EV, or EV charging equipment experience.
-
APAC context: Prior engineering work in Asia Pacific markets; familiarity with regional standards, localization, and local supplier ecosystems.
-
Process rigor: PLM/PDM release processes, change control, and structured validation/gate reviews for electromechanical products.
-
Mechatronics: Comfort collaborating on electromechanical interfaces, connectors, enclosures, and serviceability-driven design.
-
Cost & scale: Experience taking mechanical designs from prototype/pilot into cost-reduced mid-volume production for regional distribution.
