Key Responsibilities
The Interior Designer will be responsible for the following duties consistent with ANZSCO 232511:
- Consult with clients, stakeholders, users and professional advisers to determine the objectives, constraints and requirements of the interior design brief.
- Research and analyse spatial, functional, ergonomic, economic, safety, sustainability, inclusivity and aesthetic requirements of interior environments.
- Develop innovative design concepts that encourage and facilitate optimal use of space by occupants.
- Prepare presentations, mood boards, detailed drawings, and 3D visualisation models to communicate interior design proposals.
- Utilise CAD software and other visualisation tools to produce realistic renderings of proposed interior designs for review by clients and project stakeholders.
- Select appropriate materials, finishes, fixtures, furniture and decorative elements to enhance the aesthetic appeal and functional performance of interior spaces.
- Prepare comprehensive documentation, specifications, schedules and contracts for interior construction and fit-out works, ensuring compliance with relevant building codes, Australian Standards and statutory regulations.
- Liaise and coordinate with architects, builders, contractors and suppliers to ensure designs are executed in accordance with project specifications, approved budgets and agreed timelines.
- Prepare estimates of costs and materials, and submit design proposals and quotations for client approval.
- Design bespoke furniture and joinery pieces to meet specific project requirements.
- Conduct site inspections and coordinate on-site installation to ensure design intent is accurately implemented and quality standards are maintained.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Interior Design, Spatial Design, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated at least 3 years of professional experience in an interior design role, including project delivery from concept to completion.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit) and 3D visualisation/rendering tools.
- Sound knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC), relevant Australian Standards, and building regulations about interior construction.
- Strong creative, technical and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to manage client and stakeholder relationships.
- A professional portfolio demonstrating previous interior design work.
