Lead the engineering excellence and modernisation agenda across Risk and Finance Technology. This is a hands-on technical leadership role responsible for partnering with Crew Technology Leads to uplift engineering capability across multiple crews, tackle complex engineering challenges, and establish strong engineering practices. The role will provide technical coaching and leadership to engineers and engineering leaders, champion DevSecOps, automation, reliability and secure engineering practices, and help teams improve the quality, maintainability and resilience of their technology assets. Working across both Risk and Finance domains, the role will drive consistency in engineering standards while supporting crews to deliver secure, scalable and well-engineered technology outcomes.

Role Overview:
We are seeking a Chief Engineer to lead engineering excellence and uplift engineering capability across the Risk and Finance Technology portfolio. This role requires a highly credible, hands-on engineering leader who can work directly with engineers and technical leaders to solve complex problems, improve engineering practices, and drive high-quality technology outcomes.
The role will partner closely with Crew Technology Leads across Risk and Finance Technology, supporting a portfolio of internally built and vendor-supported platforms. Working across multiple crews, the Chief Engineer will provide technical coaching and leadership, champion modern engineering practices, and help teams improve software quality, resilience, automation and operational excellence. The role will also work closely with senior leaders and central teams within the Chief Data Office to ensure engineering and data priorities are aligned and support the organisation's strategic objectives.
As part of this role, you will:
Partner with Crew Technology Leads across Risk and Finance Technology to solve complex engineering challenges and accelerate modernisation outcomes.
Provide hands-on technical leadership and coaching to engineers, Principal Engineers and engineering leaders across multiple crews.
Establish and uplift engineering standards, practices and ways of working to improve quality, maintainability and delivery outcomes.
Lead the reduction of technical debt and support the modernisation of legacy platforms and applications.
Drive engineering excellence across software development, platform engineering, testing, automation, observability and operational resilience.
Champion DevSecOps, CI/CD, infrastructure automation and contemporary engineering practices.
Guide teams through complex technical decisions and implementation challenges across applications, integration and data platforms.
Drive the responsible adoption of AI-assisted engineering, developer productivity tooling and process automation.
Partner with the Chief Data Office and data platform teams to improve data accessibility, usability and readiness for analytics and AI use cases.
Build engineering capability through mentoring, coaching and the development of engineering communities of practice.
Translate complex technical issues into clear risks, trade-offs, decisions and outcomes for senior stakeholders.
Foster a strong engineering culture focused on quality, simplification, ownership, continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Experience in large-scale enterprise environments, with a strong track record of building internally developed applications.
Have experience working with modern software delivery practices, secure design, CI/CD and engineering quality at scale.
Are comfortable influencing senior stakeholders, making pragmatic trade-offs and communicating technical decisions clearly.
Are curious about the role AI, GenAI and Agentic platforms can play in improving colleague and customer experiences.
The technical depth to work directly with engineers, challenge designs, break down problems and guide implementation.
Experience operating in complex or regulated environments and balancing modernisation with risk, control and operational requirements.
Desirable Experience
Knowledge of vendor application ecosystems and automation of the engineering components surrounding those platforms.
Experience influencing enterprise data strategy from the perspective of business and technology consumers.
Experience in Risk, Finance, banking or financial services technology.
