We're seeking an experienced AWS Architect to join a critical cloud remediation and transformation program within the financial services sector.

- Sydney CBD – 3 days per week in office
Working closely with senior stakeholders, technical leads, security teams, and engineering squads, you will be responsible for defining target-state architecture, producing High-Level Designs (HLDs), and driving architectural decisions that deliver secure, scalable, and compliant AWS outcomes.
This is a highly visible role suited to someone who combines deep AWS expertise with strong stakeholder engagement skills and experience operating within complex, regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop High-Level Designs (HLDs) and architecture artefacts for large-scale AWS remediation initiatives
- Define secure, scalable, and highly available AWS solution architectures
- Lead architecture governance, design reviews, and technical decision-making forums
- Provide architectural guidance across security, networking, infrastructure, platform, and DevOps domains
- Partner with technical leads and engineering teams to ensure successful implementation of architectural outcomes
- Identify architectural risks, dependencies, and constraints across complex AWS environments
- Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to align solutions with strategic objectives
- Mentor architects, engineers, and cloud teams while promoting best practice design principles
Key Skills & Experience
- 10+ years' experience in IT Architecture, including significant experience designing enterprise-scale AWS solutions
- Demonstrated experience producing High-Level Designs (HLDs) for large-scale cloud transformation, modernisation, or remediation programs
- Strong AWS expertise across a broad range of AWS services and capabilities, with exposure to some or all of the following: AWS Organizations, Control Tower, IAM, IAM Identity Center, VPC, Transit Gateway, Route 53, EC2, EKS, ECS, Fargate, Lambda, S3, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, API Gateway, and CloudFront
- Good understanding of AWS security and governance services, including Security Hub, GuardDuty, KMS, Secrets Manager, CloudTrail, AWS Config, SCPs, and modern security architecture principles such as Zero Trust
- Experience working with Infrastructure as Code and cloud automation tools, including Terraform, CloudFormation, CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and AWS CodePipeline
- Exposure to cloud operations, observability, and optimisation practices, including CloudWatch, OpenSearch, logging and monitoring platforms, and FinOps
- Proven experience designing secure, resilient, and highly available AWS environments within complex enterprise organisations
- Experience leading architecture governance, design reviews, and technical decision-making processes
- Previous experience within financial services or another highly regulated environment is essential
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage technical teams, senior leadership, and business stakeholders
