We’re growing our Brisbane Hydrogeology and Hydrology (H&H) team and are seeking a Senior or Associate level Surface Water Engineer to support a strong pipeline of work across mining, infrastructure, government, and the built environment.
You’ll join one of SLR Australia’s largest disciplines, working alongside more than 65 hydrology and hydrogeology specialists across Brisbane, Townsville, Newcastle, Wollongong, Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth. The team combines technical excellence with a collaborative and supportive culture, delivering complex water management solutions for clients throughout Australia.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of projects, including flood studies, hydraulic modelling, water balance assessments, environmental approvals, and water infrastructure projects. You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, build strong client relationships, and play a key role in project delivery and business growth.
How you’ll contribute:
Working on a variety of surface water projects for key national clients, you will be responsible for:
Technical Delivery: Applying surface water engineering expertise to deliver hydrological, hydraulic, and water management studies across a broad range of projects.
Client Engagement: Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients while collaborating with colleagues across SLR’s national network.
Project Management: Managing project delivery, coordinating resources, and supporting successful outcomes across multiple projects.
Business Development: Contributing to proposals and tenders, identifying opportunities, and supporting business growth through established client relationships.
Technical Advisory: Providing technical guidance to clients, project managers, and team members on surface water engineering principles and best practice.
Field and Data Analysis: Undertaking field investigations, analysing and interpreting data, and preparing high-quality technical reports and project deliverables.
What we’re looking for:
We’re interested in speaking with professionals who bring consulting experience, technical capability, and a passion for solving complex water management challenges. Ideally, you’ll have:
Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Civil or Environmental Engineering. Postgraduate qualifications are highly regarded.
Professional Registration: RPEQ registration, or demonstrated progress towards registration, is highly desirable.
Water Balance Modelling: Experience in water balance modelling and analysis, preferably using GoldSim.
Hydrologic Modelling: Experience using RORB, WBNM, and XP RAFTS.
Hydraulic Modelling: Experience applying two-dimensional hydraulic modelling tools such as TUFLOW, alongside a strong understanding of Australian Rainfall and Runoff and relevant industry guidelines.
Flood and Surface Water Assessments: Experience delivering flood risk studies, mine water management plans, water quality assessments, streamflow assessments, and local and state government planning and environmental approvals, including EIS and EA amendment processes.
Water Infrastructure Experience: Experience assessing and contributing to the design of water-related infrastructure, including dams, levees, diversions, dam safety assessments, consequence category assessments, and yield studies.
Project and Client Leadership: Demonstrated success managing multidisciplinary projects, preparing high-quality technical reports, building long-term client relationships, and working effectively within collaborative teams.
Why join SLR?
At SLR, you’ll join a diverse, collaborative team of technical specialists who are passionate about delivering high-quality outcomes for clients and supporting each other’s success.
Alongside meaningful project work and access to leading technical expertise, you’ll benefit from flexible hybrid working, national collaboration opportunities, professional development, and a supportive parental leave program.
