About the team
The Service NSW Cyber Security team brings together specialists across security architecture, governance and risk, secure digital delivery, incident response, offensive security, and security awareness. We work closely with digital product and platform teams to help build and operate secure, trusted services used by millions of people and businesses across NSW. You’ll join a collaborative, outcomes-focused team where you can work on complex security challenges, contribute your ideas and develop your skills across a broad range of cyber security capabilities.
About the role
As Principal Platform Security Architect, you will provide technical and architectural leadership to strengthen security across Service NSW’s cloud platforms and digital environment. You will play a key role in delivering the Cyber Security uplift program, working closely with Cyber Security and Digital teams to design practical security solutions and support their implementation.
This is a hands-on role where you will help turn security requirements into scalable architecture patterns, technical designs and working solutions. Your work will directly contribute to protecting the digital products and platforms used by people and businesses across NSW.
Key responsibilities

Design and review secure solution architectures and reusable implementation patterns for cloud and platform environments.

Develop and maintain architecture diagrams showing the placement of security controls and identifying security gaps.

Provide technical advice on cloud and infrastructure security, including AWS, container platforms, web application firewalls, firewalls and proxies.

Review platform, infrastructure and network changes, assess security risks and recommend practical controls.

Develop hands-on proofs of concept and assist technical teams to implement agreed security solutions.

Work with Cyber Security, platform, engineering and product teams to embed security into digital delivery without creating unnecessary barriers.

Support the delivery of cyber initiatives that improve security across Service NSW systems and customer-facing digital services.
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

Significant experience designing and implementing security solutions in cloud-native environments.

Strong practical experience with AWS and cloud infrastructure security.

Experience with container platforms, web application firewalls, firewalls, proxies and related infrastructure security controls.

The ability to produce clear solution designs, architecture diagrams and reusable security patterns.

Experience assessing technical changes, identifying security risks and recommending practical solutions.

A hands-on approach, including developing proofs of concept and working with engineers to support implementation.

Strong stakeholder skills and the ability to work across Cyber Security, architecture, platform, engineering and product teams.

An understanding of agile digital delivery and how to embed security controls into fast-moving technology environments.

Experience working in Service NSW or a similar large digital service environment would be an advantage.

Our recruitment process
