About QSAT
QSAT is building next-generation software-defined ground infrastructure for satellite communications and space domain awareness.
Our software powers electronically-steered multibeam antenna systems that support Ground Station-as-a-Service (GSaaS), passive RF Space Domain Awareness (SDA), and future multiband antenna platforms. Today, our systems are operational in live environments, and we are evolving towards a common software platform that supports future generations of QSAT products.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to provide software ownership across QSAT's software engineering function.
This is a hands-on role responsible for the technical direction, architecture and ongoing evolution of our software platforms. You will work across our existing products, driving platform enhancements, improving engineering maturity, strengthening security and compliance, and defining the common software architecture that will underpin future antenna systems.
Working closely with Product, Systems, RF, FPGA and Hardware teams, you will ensure our software platforms remain reliable, scalable and ready for future growth.
Responsibilities:

Software Architecture & Senior Software Ownership

Define and evolve the common software architecture across current and future QSAT products.
- Establish software engineering standards, design principles and development practices.
- Review architecture, mentor engineers and provide technical guidance across the software team.
- Drive pragmatic decisions around software reuse, refactoring and future platform development.
- Product Development

Lead technical delivery across existing software platforms.
- Work with Product and Engineering to translate customer requirements into scalable software solutions.
- Enhance mission planning, scheduling, monitoring, APIs and operational tooling.
- Support customer deployments and operational software enhancements.
- Platform Engineering & DevSecOps

Improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation and release processes.
- Maintain cloud and on-premise software infrastructure.

Improve system monitoring, observability and operational reliability.
- Drive software quality through testing, automation and engineering best practices.
- Security & Compliance
-
Embed secure software development practices throughout the engineering lifecycle.
- Support compliance with Essential Eight, DISP, ISO27001 and customer security requirements.
- Improve platform security, identity management, secrets management and vulnerability management.
- Hands-on Engineering

Contribute directly to production software across backend systems, APIs and operational platforms.
- Develop software using Python and C/C++.

Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve platform performance.
- Collaborate with RF, FPGA and Engineering teams on software integration.
Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering or related discipline.
- 8+ years' experience developing complex software systems.

Experience providing Senior Software ownership within software engineering teams.
- Strong software architecture and distributed systems experience.
- Strong Python and C/C++ development skills.

Experience with Linux, Docker and Kubernetes.

Experience building APIs and backend services.

Experience with Azure Cloud or equivalent cloud platforms.

Experience implementing CI/CD and DevOps practices.

Strong understanding of networking, distributed systems and infrastructure.
- Excellent communication, mentoring and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Experience:

Satellite communications, ground station software or RF systems.
- Software Defined Radio or Digital Signal Processing.

Mission-critical or defence systems.

Kafka, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Grafana and FastAPI.

Infrastructure as Code and modern observability platforms.
