Your day as a Senior Advisor
The Senior Advisor role sits within a reviews and reform environment, with a strong focus on financial analysis, budget review, and resource allocation and evidence-based advice. The role will support agency budget reviews, analyse financial models and revenue forecasts, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, governance and service delivery outcomes.
The successful candidate will bring strong analytical capability, sound advisory judgement and the ability to translate complex financial and operational information into practical recommendations for senior decision makers.
You’ll be curious, resilient and comfortable working with ambiguity, demonstrating ownership, attention to detail and the confidence to respectfully challenge thinking where supported by evidence. Strong candidates will show how their analysis has informed decisions and driven outcomes.

Achieve success as a Senior Advisor
In this integral role there are a few things we would like for you to have to best support yourself and add value to the people of NSW.
The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:
- Advanced Excel skills, with strong financial modelling, diligence and analysis.
- Ability to prepare high-quality reports, briefings and practical recommendations for senior stakeholders.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial and operational information clearly.
- Confidence engaging with stakeholders, facilitating discussions and testing assumptions in a constructive way.
- Comfort working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments while maintaining sound judgement and attention to detail.
- Relevant experience in transaction advisory, financial due diligence, financial modelling, budget analysis, corporate finance or a related field.
- Government experience is beneficial but not essential, where strong transferable skills and a clear interest in public sector impact can be demonstrated.
