Senior Cost Controller
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Senior Cost Controller to join Downer's Utilities – Water Services business.
Reporting to the Finance Manager , this role is responsible for providing strategic financial leadership across multiple complex infrastructure and construction projects, ensuring robust cost control, forecasting accuracy, and commercial governance throughout the project lifecycle.
Working closely with project delivery teams, finance stakeholders, and senior leaders, you will play a pivotal role in driving financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities, and enabling informed decision-making across a portfolio of critical water infrastructure projects.

What You'll Do
- Lead cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and financial governance across multiple complex projects.
- Provide strategic insights through trend analysis, project performance reporting, and risk and opportunity management.
- Oversee month-end reporting, cost accruals, cash flow forecasting, and budget management activities.
- Partner with project and delivery teams to identify early cost and schedule risks and implement corrective actions.
Mentor cost control professionals and promote continuous improvement of systems, processes, and reporting practices.

What We're Looking For
- Significant experience (10+ years preferred) in project cost control, cost management, or project finance within major capital construction or infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of financial management, project accounting, forecasting, budgeting, cost control, and Earned Value Performance Management (EVPM).
- Experience using project cost control systems such as InEight , along with ERP platforms such as JDE or similar.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and data analysis skills, with the ability to interpret and present complex financial information to stakeholders.
Highly analytical, detail-oriented, collaborative, and capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels while mentoring and developing others.
