Technical Writer – Mining Assets

About the role
We are seeking multiple experienced Technical Writers to support documentation across mobile and fixed plant assets within a mining environment. This role suits a trade-qualified or Engineering professional who has transitioned into technical documentation and brings a strong understanding of asset maintenance, operational procedures, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with maintenance, engineering, operations, and business improvement teams to produce clear, accurate, and practical technical documentation that supports safe, efficient, and reliable operations.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, review, and maintain technical documentation including, Maintenance procedures and work instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Asset management and reliability documentation; and Inspection, commissioning, and shutdown documentation.
- Translate technical and trade-based knowledge into clear, user-focused documentation suitable for frontline and technical audiences.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), trades, engineers, and planners to capture accurate operational and maintenance requirements.
- Support business improvement initiatives by documenting improved processes, standardisation, and lessons learned.
- Ensure documentation aligns with Site standards and governance, Safety and risk management requirements; and Regulatory and compliance obligations.
- Participate in on-site engagement as required to observe equipment, validate procedures, and engage with stakeholders.
- Maintain document control, versioning, and quality standards within document management systems.
About you (essential)
- Experience as a Technical Writer or in a similar documentation-focused role
- Engineering Degree or Trade qualification (e.g. mechanical, electrical, mobile plant, fixed plant, or similar)
- Demonstrated experience working with mobile and/or fixed plant assets
- Previous experience in a mining or heavy industrial environment
- Strong understanding of maintenance and operational workflows
- Experience supporting or contributing to business improvement or continuous improvement initiatives
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- High attention to detail with strong written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint)
- Experience with document control systems desirable
Desirable
- Exposure to asset management frameworks or maintenance management systems (e.g. SAP, Pronto or similar).
- Experience standardising procedures across multiple sites or asset types.
- Familiarity with safety management systems and risk-based documentation.
- Experience working in hybrid or distributed teams.
- Safety and/or Training qualifications
