Concord Hospital Haematology Clinical Research Unit is seeking highly motivated Provisional Fellows to join the Haematology Clinical Research Team
What you will be doing
Two positions are offered, working within the Haematology Clinical Research Unit and Department of Haematology at Concord Hospital. The positions are open to qualified candidates in Clinical Haematology. Opportunities are available to develop your own research projects including enrolment in a higher research degree if desired. Fellows are encouraged to develop an area of research interest and to present at local, state and national meetings where appropriate.
1. Clinical Research Unit (CRU) Fellow
a. The CRU Fellow manages patients treated in clinical trials across all haematological malignancies. They will gain valuable experience in managing patients treated with bispecific/trispecific antibodies and novel small molecules in phase I, II and III trials. They will work closely with the CAR T fellow in care of patients in CAR T trials.
b. They will provide both routine and urgent medical assessment and clinical care to patients screened & participating in clinical trials as a certified Investigator within Concord Haematology’s Clinical Research Unit (CRU).
c. They will also be involved in supporting observational studies and disease registries.
2. Haemostasis & Thrombosis (H&T) Fellow
a. Management of patients on H&T clinical trials
b. Co-ordination of participants involved in H&T translational and observational research projects and registries. Potential for engagement with translational projects in collaboration with the ANZAC research institute.
c. Participation in specialty clinics: Inherited Platelet Disorders Clinic, clinics with Antiphospholipid Syndrome focus and general H&T clinics
d. Providing H&T consultative services within the hospital, including ICU H&T rounds, and coagulation laboratory support
e. Co-leading H&T governance activities including: VTE Prevention/Anticoagulation Stewardship meetings, Concord and District anticoagulation guideline updates
f. Providing rapid access outpatient service for management of acute VTE
The Concord Haematology Clinical Research Unit (HCRU)
Concord HCRU is a large and growing clinical research unit which supports Concord Haematology department goal to deliver “world class care locally”. Housed in the purpose built Concord Cancer Centre, we undertake early to late phase clinical trials including CAR-T clinical trials and first-in-human phase I trials. The trials portfolio extends across a broad range of malignancies (lymphoma, leukaemia, myeloma, MDS) and other haematological disorders (thrombosis, autoimmune disorders). At any one time, the HCRU manages more than 120 studies either recruiting or in follow up from phase I-IV.
Under the leadership of the HCRU Haematologist Director and Manager, the HCRU supports 9 clinical haematologists and employs 13 clinical research nurses / study coordinators, 4 administrative staff responsible for ethics and regulatory requirements as well as 4 medical student data managers, and patient investigators. The Unit has a strong ethos of community engagement and its investigator-initiated research is supported by the Foundation for A Bloody Great Cause!

Concord Repatriation General Hospital (CRGH) is a principal referral facility and a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney in the geographical centre of Sydney. CRGH offers a comprehensive range of specialty and sub-specialty services, many recognised nationally and internationally as Centre’s of excellence. The affiliated ANZAC Research Institute performs high quality basic and translational research, in particular, the Platelet and Thrombosis Research Group led by Prof Vivien Chen.
Concord Haematology offers full clinical and laboratory services including autologous stem cell transplantation and apheresis unit, a large treatment and outpatient service as well as a general consultation service. Haematologists within the unit have strong ties to Working Groups in the Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group, representation on the Australasian Lymphoma Alliance and have many active national and international collaborations.
