Senior Furniture Assembly & Warehouse Operator
VE Furniture – Mulgrave VICFull-Time Temporary Contract – 7 months, with view to permanent$30.00 per hour + super | 38 hours per week | Monday–Friday
About the Role
VE Furniture is looking for an experienced, hands-on Senior Furniture Assembly & Warehouse Operator to join our Warehouse & Production team in Mulgrave.
This is not a traditional pick-and-pack warehouse role.
We are looking for someone who is confident working across furniture assembly, production, stock handling, warehouse operations, dispatch and occasional delivery/site support.
You will need demonstrated experience using drill drivers, impact drivers and common furniture assembly tools, as well as practical warehouse experience including picking, counting, wrapping, labelling, staging and moving stock.
This is a senior hands-on position, not a formal supervisory role. You will be expected to work independently, take ownership of assigned work, maintain high quality standards and help less-experienced team members through practical support and leading by example.
You will report to the Warehouse & Production Leading Hand, with technical guidance provided by our Senior Production Specialist and Technical Standards & Quality Lead.
What You'll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Independently assembling furniture to VE quality standards
- Safely and confidently using drill drivers, impact drivers and furniture assembly tools
- Reading and following assembly instructions, production paperwork and basic drawings
- Picking and verifying customer and production orders
- Counting, wrapping, protecting and labelling stock accurately
- Staging and grouping customer orders for dispatch
- Moving and consolidating stock within the warehouse
- Assisting with goods receiving and container unloading
- Supporting stock counts and discrepancy investigations
- Preparing orders for dispatch and assisting with truck loading
- Completing self-quality checks and identifying defects before work progresses
- Maintaining clean, safe and organised production and warehouse areas
- Supporting junior team members by demonstrating correct work methods
- Identifying problems early and communicating them to the Leading Hand
- Contributing practical ideas to improve production, warehouse organisation and workflow
- Occasionally assisting with deliveries, furniture placement and installation as a jockey
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Previous warehouse, production, manufacturing or furniture assembly experience
- Demonstrated practical experience using drill drivers and impact drivers
- Confidence using common hand and power tools
- Strong furniture assembly or comparable practical skills
- Experience picking, counting, wrapping, labelling and handling stock
- Ability to follow written instructions and production paperwork
- Good practical problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to quality and detail
- Ability to work independently without continual prompting
- Good communication and willingness to raise problems early
- Strong safety and housekeeping standards
- Reliable attendance and a positive team attitude
You will also need, or be willing to obtain:
- Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- White Card where required for construction-site work
Highly regarded:
- Forklift Licence
- Commercial furniture assembly experience
- Furniture delivery or installation experience
- Container unloading experience
- Experience supporting or training less-experienced team members
- Lean manufacturing or 5S experience
What Success Looks Like
We are looking for someone the Leading Hand can give an important warehouse or production task to and trust to complete it safely, accurately and efficiently without continual supervision.
You will take ownership of your work, check quality before it progresses, communicate problems early, look after stock and equipment, maintain an organised work area and positively contribute to the people around you.
We value people who work with urgency without becoming careless and who are willing to ask when they are unsure rather than guess.
