ROJONE is an established Australian manufacturer specialising in RF, microwave, communications, GPS/GNSS, antenna and cable assembly solutions supplied to the defence, telecommunications, mining, industrial and other specialised markets.
With more than 45 years of Australian manufacturing experience, we are looking for an experienced and technically minded Sales Engineer / Technical Sales Engineer to join our team.
This is a hands-on technical sales position for someone who can understand a customer's technical requirement, develop the right solution, source the necessary components, accurately cost the project and prepare a professional, technically compliant quotation or tender response.
About the Role
You will work closely with customers and our internal engineering and manufacturing teams to turn customer requirements into practical, manufacturable and commercially viable solutions.
The successful applicant will be comfortable working with technical drawings, specifications, BOMs, RF and communications products, components and manufacturing requirements, while maintaining a high level of accuracy throughout the quoting and sales process.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage technical sales opportunities from initial customer enquiry through to quotation, order and project completion.
- Communicate directly with customers to understand their technical, commercial and application requirements.
- Analyse customer requirements and problem-solve to develop appropriate technical solutions.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, specifications and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Identify and source suitable components, materials and products from approved suppliers and manufacturers.
- Prepare accurate costings, pricing, quotations and technical offers.
- Review drawings, specifications and customer documentation to ensure all requirements are addressed before an offer is submitted.
- Prepare and coordinate tender submissions, project quotations and formal technical proposals.
- Ensure quotations clearly identify inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, specifications, lead times and commercial conditions.
- Liaise with suppliers to obtain pricing, technical information, availability and lead times.
- Work closely with manufacturing, engineering, purchasing and management to ensure proposed solutions are practical and achievable.
- Identify opportunities for alternative products, value engineering and cost-effective technical solutions.
- Maintain accurate customer, quotation and opportunity information within the company's systems.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing customers while actively identifying new business opportunities.
- Follow up quotations and tenders and assist in converting opportunities into sales.
- Attend customer meetings, industry events, exhibitions and site visits when required.
- Maintain a high standard of professionalism and confidentiality when dealing with customers and technical information.
Technical Accuracy Is Critical
This role requires someone who is meticulous with specifications and documentation.
You will be responsible for ensuring that products and solutions offered to customers accurately reflect the customer's requirements. Before a quotation or tender is submitted, you will be expected to carefully check part numbers, specifications, quantities, drawings, BOMs, pricing, lead times, compliance requirements and any customer-specific conditions.
Getting the technical details right is essential.
About You
We are looking for a technically qualified person who also has strong commercial and customer-facing skills.
Essential:
- Electrical trade qualification, electrical engineering qualification, electronics qualification or another relevant recognised technical qualification.
- Previous experience in technical sales, sales engineering, electrical/electronics manufacturing, engineering, estimating or a similar technical commercial role.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings, schematics, specifications and BOMs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to understand a customer's requirement and translate it into a practical technical solution.
- Ability to research and source components and products from suppliers.
- Experience preparing costings, quotations and project pricing.
- Ability to interpret customer specifications and prepare accurate technical offers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to documentation.
- Ability to communicate confidently and professionally with customers, suppliers and internal teams.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to learn company ERP, CRM and quoting systems.
- Ability to manage multiple quotations and projects while meeting deadlines.
- Current Australian driver's licence.
