About Us
Pivotel delivers critical communication solutions across satellite and cellular networks – keeping businesses, government organisations and communities connected in some of Australia’s most challenging environments.
Our Technology team designs, operates and continues to evolve the telecommunications infrastructure and platforms behind those services – spanning voice, data, SMS, mobile, satellite, M2M, cybersecurity and IT.
We’re continuing to strengthen our network engineering capability and are looking for an experienced Network Engineer to join the team on an initial 6-month fixed term, with the possibility of extension.
About the Role
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone with strong experience across carrier-grade or large enterprise IP networks, particularly within a Juniper environment.
Working closely with our Senior Network Architect and broader Technology teams, you’ll help implement, operate, maintain and optimise Pivotel’s IP network infrastructure across core, access, data centre, mobile, satellite and enterprise environments.
You’ll work across Juniper routing, VXLAN/EVPN and Layer 2 switching, Apstra-managed data centre fabrics and Aruba switching, along with the network configuration components of our Fortinet environment.
This isn’t purely a BAU support role. You’ll be involved in network deployments, migrations and improvements, complex fault resolution, lifecycle maintenance and automation – taking approved architectural designs and turning them into reliable, supportable production services.
If you enjoy being hands-on technically, solving complex network problems and working in an environment where good engineering, documentation and change discipline matter, this could be a great fit.
Key Responsibilities
-
Implement, configure, operate and maintain core, access, data centre, mobile, satellite and enterprise network infrastructure
- Administer and troubleshoot Juniper routing platforms, particularly MX204 routers
- Implement and support BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, EVPN, QoS, high availability and traffic engineering
- Configure and troubleshoot VXLAN/EVPN fabrics and Layer 2 switching
- Use Juniper Apstra for fabric deployment, validation, telemetry, configuration assurance and troubleshooting
- Configure, operate and troubleshoot Aruba switching environments
- Work with FortiGate and FortiManager for approved network connectivity requirements
- Monitor network availability, capacity, performance and hardware health
- Troubleshoot complex incidents and undertake root-cause analysis
- Perform network upgrades, patching, lifecycle maintenance, backups and configuration management
- Support network deployments, migrations, integrations and decommissioning projects
- Build and test configurations before production deployment
- Prepare implementation, testing and rollback plans
- Maintain accurate network diagrams, configuration records, procedures and operational runbooks
- Identify opportunities to improve network automation, standardisation and monitoring
- Work collaboratively across Network, Security, IT, Operations and external vendors
The role also acts as a technical escalation point for complex incidents and supports formal change, incident and problem-management processes.
What You’ll Bring to This Role
We’re looking for someone who can come into the environment and make a meaningful contribution.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
-
Strong hands-on experience in carrier-grade or large enterprise IP networking
- Demonstrated production experience with Juniper routing, including MX204
- Strong practical experience with VXLAN/EVPN and Layer 2 switching
- Hands-on Juniper Apstra experience
- Strong knowledge of routing technologies including BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS and QoS
- Experience administering Aruba switching environments
- Previous FortiManager experience and working knowledge of FortiGate firewalls
- Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting capability using logs, telemetry, packet capture and protocol analysis
- Experience with network monitoring, configuration management and ideally automation/scripting
- The ability to produce clear technical documentation, implementation plans, test plans and network diagrams
- A good understanding of change control, least privilege and separation of Network and Security responsibilities
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across technical teams, vendors and stakeholders
Relevant Juniper certification such as JNCIP-SP, JNCIP-ENT or JNCIP-DC would be well regarded, although equivalent demonstrated experience is equally valuable.
