About the role
As a member of the Research & Geospatial Analytics team, you will assist with data maintenance, validation, mapping, reporting, documentation and user support. The position contributes to the integrity of Council's core spatial datasets, including Vicmap-related processes, and helps ensure the delivery of accurate and reliable spatial information to support planning, decision-making and service delivery across Council.
Reporting directly to the Coordinator Research and Geospatial Analytics, this role provides an opportunity to develop and apply capability in geospatial systems, data administration, spatial analysis, data visualisation and business systems support.
This will be a permanent full-time role based at Knox Civic Centre, Wantirna South. We support flexible working arrangements while ensuring operational needs of the role are met.
We are seeking applications from students to professionals at varying stages of their geospatial career and may appoint at either a Band 5 or Band 6 level, depending on skills, qualifications and experience. Separate s are available for each classification outlining the corresponding duties, responsibilities and requirements.
The Band 5 classified role (Graduate Geospatial Data Administrator) remuneration will be $83,593.07 to $97,258.47 (depending on experience) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.
Band 6 Classified role (Geospatial Business Analyst) remuneration will be $102,287.48 to $111,713.31 (depending on experience) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.
What you will bring to this role
The key selection criteria for the Graduate Geospatial Data Administrator role:
- A tertiary qualification, or near completion of a tertiary qualification, in Geomatics, Geospatial Science, or a related discipline. Qualifications in Data Analytics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Geography, Urban Planning or similar fields will also be considered where applicants demonstrate a strong interest in geospatial technologies
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills, with the ability to follow procedures, maintain accurate records and manage competing priorities.
- Foundational knowledge of geospatial data, GIS, mapping technologies, databases and data governance, including the ability to work with spatial and non-spatial data
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and work effectively within a team environment.
- Understanding land tenure concepts, including property boundaries, easements, reserves, road ownership and other land interests, and how these are represented in spatial datasets is desirable.
- Exposure to geospatial and data tools such as IntraMaps, QGIS, MapBuilder, TerraExplorer, POZIConnect, MBS Premium, FME, SQL Server, Power BI, Pathway Python, DAX or JavaScript is desirable.
The key selection criteria for the Geospatial Business Analyst role:
- A tertiary qualification in Geomatics, Geospatial Science, or a related discipline. Qualifications in Data Analytics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Geography, Urban Planning or similar fields will also be considered where applicants demonstrate applied experience in geospatial systems, data management or business systems support.
- Well developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and work effectively within a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail an organisational skills, with the ability to follow procedures, maintain accurate records and manage competing priorities.
- Working knowledge of land tenure concepts, including property, cadastral parcels, planning and asset data, and how these are used in a local government environment.
- Experience analysing, maintaining, validating, transforming and integrating spatial and non-spatial datasets across corporate systems, including using relational databases such as SQL Server and applying sound data management principles in operational environments.
- Experience producing maps, dashboards, reports or other visual outputs using tools such as Power BI or similar platforms, and contributing to system testing, documentation, process mapping and the delivery of geospatial or data-related improvements.
