About us
DTC, a Codan company, operates in fast growing markets offering innovative and robust wireless security products, leading-edge IP centric network devices, and C4I application software solutions, along with high performance wireless broadcast systems for all industries.
Our passion for innovation keeps us one step ahead in the rapidly changing and increasingly challenging environments within which we perform, whether on critical missions, in the streets of our cities, or at the world's largest sporting events.
With more than 60 years of experience and a global presence in over 150 countries, our teams and products are recognised for delivering innovative, reliable, and industry-leading technology solutions that consistently meet the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction.
What will you be doing?
As a Software Engineer, you'll join our Applications Development team creating software that enables users to configure, control and monitor our advanced communications products.
Working closely with Embedded Software, Electronics and RF Engineers, you'll develop intuitive desktop applications and user interfaces that interact directly with sophisticated communications hardware. You'll play an important role in delivering software that enhances the user experience while supporting the performance and capability of our products.
You'll be working on software that communicates with real hardware, helping to develop configuration tools, device management applications and graphical user interfaces that support mission-critical communications systems.
As part of a collaborative multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll have the opportunity to contribute throughout the product lifecycle, from initial concepts and feature development through to testing, release and ongoing product enhancement.
Key Responsibilities will include:
Designing and developing desktop applications using C++ and Qt
Developing user interfaces that configure, control and monitor advanced communications products
Working closely with Embedded Software and Hardware Engineers to integrate applications with embedded devices
Developing networking functionality using TCP/IP and related communications protocols
Participating in software design, code reviews and technical discussions
Debugging and troubleshooting complex software and hardware interactions
Supporting software verification, testing and continuous improvement activities
Producing clear technical documentation to support development and ongoing product maintenance
Contributing to the evolution of our application software architecture and engineering practices
About You
You're degree-qualified in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline, with experience developing desktop applications using modern C++.
You have strong object-oriented programming skills and practical experience with Qt, whether using Qt Widgets, Qt Quick or QML. You're comfortable developing applications that communicate over TCP/IP networks and enjoy solving complex technical problems.
Experience with Python, REST APIs, Linux application development, CI/CD or automated testing would be advantageous. Exposure to embedded Linux, communications systems, Software Defined Radio or applications that interact closely with hardware would also be highly regarded.
We're looking for engineers who enjoy developing high-quality applications that solve real engineering challenges. This role is best suited to someone with a background in desktop or engineering software development rather than enterprise business systems or purely web-based applications.
You'll be a collaborative engineer with strong problem-solving skills who enjoys working as part of a multidisciplinary team and takes pride in delivering robust, user-focused software.
Benefits and Culture
Our culture is supportive and collaborative. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team where we share our ideas and innovation is strongly encouraged. We are looking for someone with genuine passion and can-do attitude for what they do.
Our Head office is located in Mawson Lakes offering a spacious, modern facility, free secure onsite parking, easy access via public transport, and an onsite subsidised café. We also have recreational facilities including a gym, basketball and tennis court, as well as various game tables. Additionally, our staff are provided flexibility to meet the demands of family life, a child-friendly parenting room, and a variety of staff events to connect with colleagues across the Codan Group.
