Helix Asset Management is a Perth-based maintenance and asset management consultancy firm working with mining and civil operations across WA. The Role
We're looking for experienced Maintenance Planners to join the Helix team, supporting mining clients across WA on mobile and fixed plant assets. This is a core delivery role — you'll be responsible for producing high-quality, executable work plans that give trades the right information, the right parts, and the right time allocation to get the job done properly the first time.
Good planning isn't about processing work orders. It's about understanding the equipment, anticipating what the job actually involves, coordinating the resources and parts before the spanner hits the bolt, and making sure the scheduler and supervisor have everything they need to run a clean week. We have opportunities for both site-based FIFO planners embedded directly within client maintenance teams, and Perth-based planners operating within Helix's centralised planning model — delivering remote planning services across multiple client sites simultaneously.
What You'll Be Doing
- Developing detailed, executable work plans for corrective and preventive maintenance work orders — including scope of work, labour hours, trade disciplines, parts, tools, permits, and access requirements
- Managing and maintaining the planning backlog — prioritising work in line with equipment criticality, operational requirements, and available maintenance windows
- Coordinating parts and materials requirements ahead of scheduled work — raising purchase requisitions, confirming stock availability, and liaising with stores and procurement to ensure parts are on hand before work commences
- Working closely with schedulers and maintenance supervisors to produce realistic, achievable weekly maintenance schedules — and supporting the scheduling meeting process
- Reviewing and closing out completed work orders — capturing actual vs planned hours, identifying scope variances, and feeding findings back into future planning
- Maintaining and improving PM task lists and job plans within the CMMS to ensure planned work reflects current maintenance strategies and equipment requirements
- Tracking and reporting on key planning metrics — plan compliance, backlog age, parts availability, schedule adherence — and identifying trends that need attention
- Supporting shutdown and campaign maintenance planning — scope development, resource planning, materials coordination, and pre-shutdown readiness checks
- Liaising with reliability and engineering teams to ensure corrective actions and improvement recommendations are captured and planned into the work queue
- Identifying opportunities to improve planning processes, job plan quality, and CMMS data accuracy
What We're Looking For
Non-negotiables:
- Trade qualification in a relevant discipline — Heavy Diesel, Fitting, Boilermaking, Electrical, or equivalent — you need to understand the work you're planning
- Minimum 3 years in a dedicated maintenance planning role within the mining or heavy industry sector
- Solid experience with at least one CMMS platform — SAP PM, Pronto, Maximo, Ellipse, or similar — used for work order management, PM scheduling, and parts coordination
- Strong understanding of the full planning cycle — from work identification through to work order close-out and feedback loop
- Demonstrated ability to produce detailed, high-quality job plans that trades can actually execute without constant clarification
- Good working knowledge of parts and materials management as it relates to maintenance planning
- Organised, methodical, and consistent — planning quality can't vary week to week depending on workload
Highly regarded:
- Experience in either mobile plant orfixed plant planning environments
- Shutdown or campaign planning experience — scope development, resource coordination, materials management
- Experience operating within a centralised or remote planning model
- Exposure to reliability improvement activities — defect elimination, RCFA support, PM optimisation
- Familiarity with planning KPIs and reporting — you understand what the numbers mean, not just how to produce them
- Experience across multiple sites, commodities, or operation sizes
- Background with Tier 1 or Tier 2 operators (BHP, Rio Tinto, Mineral Resources, Newmont, or similar)
