Primary objective
To lead and coordinate career education and student transition planning for The Northern Territory School of Distance
Education (NTSDE) students. This role is responsible for overseeing career counselling services, monitoring student pathway
outcomes, and leading the development and delivery of high-quality online, asynchronous career and VET programs aligned
to the NTSDE Instructional Model and Registered Training Organisation (RTO) requirements. The position provides
leadership to a small team, works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, and ensures effective systems and
processes are in place to maximise student engagement, successful transitions, and Northern Territory Certificate of
Education and Training (NTCET) completion.
Context statement
The Northern Territory School of Distance Education (NTSDE) supports and delivers a range of educational services to
students, resident in the Northern Territory or temporarily living interstate or overseas. NTSDE works in collaboration with
other NT schools, supporting educators to deliver high quality, innovative and flexible senior secondary online programs.
Teachers must be able to deliver and develop learning programs aligned with our Instructional Model. Teachers must be
prepared to travel, use advanced online technologies, and teach in both online and face-to-face modes.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead the planning, preparation and delivery of quality online, asynchronous career education courses that align with the
schools Instructional Model.
2. Deliver quality career counselling, career development and pathway planning for students.
3. Maintain accurate records to track student career development progress and review student pathway plans.
4. Coordinate a year level team to monitor, track and improve student engagement, wellbeing and academic success.
5. Teaching load, including delivery of VET courses as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Current registration with the Northern Territory Teacher Registration Board, or the ability to obtain registration, is
required. Applicants must also hold all the following qualifications: a Graduate Certificate in Career Development a
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122 or equivalent), and recognised Career Counselling accreditation.
2. Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and develop high-performing teams, build workforce capability, and foster a
collaborative culture focused on continuous improvement and positive student outcomes.
3. Proven ability to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate programs and workforce trends that improve student
engagement, wellbeing, pathway attainment, educational and/or transition to employment outcomes.
4. Highly developed interpersonal communication and organisational skills, with demonstrated ability to track student
progress and achievement, build effective stakeholder relationships, manage priorities, maintain accurate records, and
support the case management of students at risk.
5. Demonstrated experience in designing, developing and delivering high-quality online learning programs and courses,
including asynchronous learning materials, that align with contemporary pedagogical practices, curriculum requirements,
and diverse learner needs.
Desirable
1. Membership of a Career Practitioners Association.

Applicants are required to have a current working with children clearance notice (Ochre Card), a current driver’s licence, and
be willing to travel remotely by 4WD and in light aircraft. This position may require staying overnight in remote communities.
