As part of our Welcome Home initiative, the Property Maintenance Officer plays a hands-on role in helping prepare properties for new tenants and keeping homes to a consistent standard. Working as part of a new in-house maintenance model, this role moves beyond reactive repairs to a more proactive, on-the-ground approach by identifying issues early, improving property conditions and contributing to positive tenant experiences across the portfolio.
You will be part of Mission Australia Housing Tasmania Team helping create safe, functional and welcoming homes for tenants.
Your key responsibilities will be to:

Deliver general maintenance tasks across residential properties, including minor repairs, cleaning, gardening and adjustments to fixtures

Prepare properties for new tenants as part of the Welcome Home service model, ensuring homes are safe, functional and welcoming

Conduct property inspections to identify maintenance issues and proactively address minor works

Raise and manage work orders, prioritising urgent maintenance tasks where required

Respond to reactive and urgent maintenance issues in a timely and effective manner

Maintain tools, equipment and materials, ensuring safe use, storage and servicing

Update asset registers and tenancy systems with accurate, real-time information on works completed

Purchase maintenance materials and manage stock levels in line with organisational policies

Build positive relationships with tenants, providing advice and coordinating maintenance activities

Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to support maintenance delivery and service improvements
Requirements for Success

Relevant experience in general property maintenance, with a minimum of 3 years in a residential or facilities environment

Trade qualification to Certificate II level, or equivalent experience, desirable
-
Proven ability to undertake a broad range of basic maintenance tasks using hand and power tools
-
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess and address maintenance issues effectively

Ability to plan and manage workloads, prioritising tasks in a dynamic environment
-
Customer-focused approach with experience supporting tenants, including those experiencing vulnerability
-
Ability to work independently, use initiative and make sound decisions on site
-
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Basic computer literacy, including experience using systems to record and track work

Understanding of WHS practices and commitment to maintaining a safe working environment

Current driver’s licence
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
