This opportunity is intended to be undertaken as an unpaid university-approved vocational or Work Integrated Learning placement. The successful applicant must obtain formal written approval from their university before commencing.
About Us
Aussie Hybrid Solar is the customer-facing solar and battery installation service brand operated by JT Solar Technology Pty Ltd, a Sydney-based renewable energy technology company established in 2009.
JT Solar Technology has established a Joint Battery Testing Laboratory with UNSW, supporting applied research and the evaluation of battery performance, safety, reliability and compatibility.
We also participate in government-supported clean energy initiatives, including projects delivered through the Trailblazer for Recycling and Clean Energy (TRaCE) program, supported by the Australian Government Department of Education.
Our work covers solar photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage, smart energy applications, system design, commissioning and ongoing support across residential, strata, commercial and industrial projects.
We are currently seeking a university engineering student to gain supervised practical experience across solar, battery storage and smart energy projects.
Eligible Students
Applicants must be currently studying:
- Electrical Engineering
- Renewable Energy Engineering
- Energy Engineering
- Power Systems
- Mechatronic Engineering
- A related engineering discipline
Placement Activities
Depending on your university requirements and learning objectives, activities may include:
- Reviewing solar and battery project documentation
- Reviewing product manuals, technical data sheets and equipment specifications
- Assisting with supervised analysis of solar generation, energy usage and battery performance data
- Supporting the preparation of technical records, data summaries and draft reports
- Reviewing testing, installation and commissioning documentation
- Researching renewable energy technologies and technical questions
- Comparing product specifications and system information
- Observing how engineers, technicians, suppliers and project teams coordinate renewable energy projects
All engineering-related activities will be completed under the supervision of a suitably qualified engineer.
Students will not undertake licensed electrical work, live electrical work or unsupervised high-risk activities. The placement is not intended to replace an employee or provide general assistance with the ordinary operation of the business.
Who We Are Looking For
You should be:
- A current university engineering student
- Eligible for a university-approved vocational or WIL placement
- Interested in solar, battery storage and smart energy systems
- Organised, responsible and detail-oriented
- Comfortable reviewing technical information and project documentation
- Willing to research unfamiliar technologies and apply feedback
- Able to communicate with technical and non-technical team members
- Available to attend the placement in person
Experience with AutoCAD, electrical design software, Microsoft Excel, data analysis, technical report writing or equipment data sheets would be beneficial but is not essential.

Placement Arrangement
This is an unpaid vocational or Work Integrated Learning placement expected to last approximately one to three months, depending on the student’s university requirements and approved placement days.
The placement will focus on structured learning, technical training, industry exposure and professional development.
After the approved placement has formally ended, the company may separately recruit for paid casual or part-time positions, depending on business requirements. Placement participants may apply through a separate recruitment process.
Any paid employment would be covered by a separate written employment agreement and is not guaranteed as part of the placement.
