Role Description
Join the JORN Project as an Electrical Engineer and contribute to one of Australia's most advanced defence capabilities.
In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development and delivery of electrical systems and equipment, ensuring compliance with contractual and business requirements while supporting project performance objectives. Working within a collaborative engineering environment, you will provide technical expertise across the project lifecycle, with occasional travel to remote Radar Sites to support technical scoping activities and oversee installation works.
Core Duties:
- Development and Review of Electrical Engineering Design Documentation.
- Progression and Management of Electrical Engineering Projects from Inception to Incorporation.
- Complete all allocated work in accordance with the schedule as per the Power and Systems 2 Year Plan Report progress on Engineering Change to the Power and Systems Team Lead on a weekly basis through the electronic reporting mechanisms.
- Assist in performing real-time and retrospective fault diagnosis for system outage events
- Conduct System Safety assessments using applicable process for Hazard Identification and Analysis
- Liaise with the Team Leads to set career goals for professional development
- Attendance at regular Continuous Training sessions to broaden knowledge base and to support CPD
- Assist in analysis of system obsolescence risks and recommended solutions
- Assist ILS team in conducting various ILS assessments of the JORN system
- Contribute to team planning, risk management, product safety, quality and SHE
- Develop and apply electrical knowledge of the JORN system, subsystems and units to understand the operation and requirements of the current system variants
- Work towards and achieve Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) through Engineers Australia (Assistance is provided by BAE in support of the applicant achieving CPEng)
- Work towards attaining appropriate Technical Authority delegations within the specified engineering discipline
- Participate in peer reviews for a variety of JORN Sustainment artefacts
- Mentor new and junior engineers of the Power and Electrical team, as assigned by the Team Lead
- Develop strong relationships with broader project team, including remote site personnel, contractors, operators and customer

- Earthing System Design and Testing
- Condition Based Monitoring
- Arc Flash Assessments
- UPS Design
- Development of Labour and Material Estimates (BOE)
- Development of strong relationships with site based and ADHOC project teams
About YOU
- Tertiary Qualifications in Electrical and Electronics Engineering
- Understanding of requirements analysis, design, verification and other systems engineering principles
- Experience in some the following technologies, design analysis techniques, development tools - Power generation and distribution, Design documentation, Circuit Protection, Earthing Systems, Control circuit design, Electrical Industry standards, Lighting systems, Electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) solutions and compliance
- Experience developing simple electrical equipment designs, participating in design reviews, undertaking typical design analyses and implementing electrical solutions, its integration, validation and qualification testing
- Background in defence practices highly desired
- Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain an NV1 clearance.

JORN - Jindalee Operational Radar Network
The Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) is a connected series of three remote over-the-horizon radars (OTHR) located in Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. The state-of-the-art defence system provides wide-area surveillance at ranges of 1,000 to 3,000 kilometres and plays a vital role in supporting the Australian Defence Force's (ADF) air and maritime operations, border protection, disaster relief and rescue operations
