Role
Kaplan International College Adelaide is seeking an experienced and student-focused Academic Lead (STEM) to provide academic leadership across defined discipline areas.
This role is responsible for supporting high-quality subject delivery, teaching practice, assessment standards and student learning outcomes.
Working closely with the Director, Learning & Teaching, you will lead excellence in STEM curriculum delivery, teaching quality, assessment, and student success. You will mentor academic staff, champion innovative teaching practices, and use evidence and learning analytics to improve student outcomes in quantitative and technical disciplines.

Responsibilities
- Provide academic leadership across STEM subjects, ensuring high-quality and consistent delivery across classes, intakes and delivery modes.
- Lead the implementation of contemporary STEM teaching practices, including active learning, inquiry-based learning and technology-enhanced education.
- Coordinate practical, laboratory and computational learning experiences where applicable, ensuring alignment with curriculum and safety requirements.
- Oversee subject implementation, including learning materials, assessment tasks, digital learning resources and LMS quality.
- Mentor, coach and support academic staff through induction, classroom observation, professional feedback and ongoing development.
- Foster innovation in curriculum design, assessment and learning activities that develop analytical, quantitative and problem-solving capabilities.
- Undertake teaching within the discipline, modelling engaging and evidence-informed STEM teaching practices.
- Lead assessment design and moderation processes that ensure fairness, academic integrity and authentic assessment aligned with university expectations.
- Analyse student performance and progression data to identify trends and implement targeted interventions that improve success in STEM subjects.
- Work collaboratively with academic and professional staff to support students transitioning successfully into university STEM programs.
- Contribute to curriculum review, quality assurance, academic governance and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain awareness of emerging developments in STEM education and contribute to ongoing curriculum enhancement.
Requirements
- Significant teaching experience in a relevant discipline within a pathways, higher education or comparable tertiary education environment.
- Demonstrated experience in subject coordination, academic leadership or supporting teaching teams.
- Experience mentoring, coaching or supporting academic staff to improve teaching practice and student outcomes.
- Strong understanding of effective teaching, learning, assessment and moderation practices in a tertiary or pathways context.
- Strong understanding of contemporary STEM pedagogy, assessment design and student-centred learning.
- Experience with laboratory-based teaching or practical STEM education.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor student performance and implement strategies that support student success.
- Strong communication, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across academic and student support teams.
- High attention to detail and the ability to ensure consistency, quality and compliance in subject delivery and assessment processes.
- Familiarity with quality assurance, academic governance processes, student success initiatives or partner university expectations will be highly regarded.
