NSW Fair Trading is looking for a Principal Intelligence Analyst to lead our Intelligence team.
The team develops targeting strategies for compliance campaigns, monitors closed and open source intelligence to proactively identify regulatory and compliance risks and supports investigations teams with developing and pursuing high impact prosecutions.
The Principal Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for building a team that will support three compliance and enforcement branches in identifying high-risk regulated
Building client relationships and finding new ways to support operational teams to achieve compliance priorities
Proactively identifying opportunities to add value through new projects, new team capabilities, and better ways of working
Developing and implementing intelligence gathering and analysis methodologies across the team, in close partnership with data science and analytics streams.
Driving a culture of responsiveness, attention to detail, and continuous improvement across a team of 6 Intelligence Analysts.

About the team
The Intelligence unit is a highly motivated and specialist team that produces complex and sensitive intelligence products to identify high risk regulatory and criminal activities. As part of NSW Fair Trading, we support investigations, prosecutions, and proactive operations to ensure that the NSW public, businesses, and communities are protected.
The role includes hybrid working arrangements, with a requirement to attend in office once per week at Parramatta and on an as-needed basis.
Your Responsibilities:
- Lead and guide the team to build a positive, high‑performing culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and delivering strong outcomes through innovative intelligence and analytics.
- Develop and manage intelligence and information strategies that support a risk‑based, intelligence‑led regulatory approach for the people of NSW.
- Provide expert advice by using advanced data analytics to develop intelligence products that help reduce risks across regulated sectors and protect the community.
- Lead special projects and give specialist advice on how changes to laws, regulations, or policies may affect the organisation’s ability to use intelligence to support regulatory work.
- Improve systems and processes that support staff development and ensure the team stays up to date with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Work closely with senior leaders to support organisational planning and help optimise operations to deliver innovative regulatory services.

- Understanding of critical thinking techniques and operate within legislative requirements.
- Appointment and ongoing assignment may be subject to restrictions and the satisfactory participation in mandatory pre-employment and ongoing probity screening, in accordance with relevant Legislation and/or related policies.
Essential requirements:- It is a requirement of this role to obtain and hold baseline security clearance. For this purpose you must be an Australian Citizen.
- Satisfactory criminal record check.
Salary Grade 11/12, with the base salary for this role starting at $154231 base plus superannuation
