As Consumer Energy Resources (CER) continue to transform the energy landscape, this role supports the systems, integrations, and operational technology that enable safe and reliable Distributed Energy Resource (DER) participation across the Ausgrid network. You will provide technical expertise across the CER/DER technology stack, maintaining the stability and performance of key platforms including Utility Server, DER Management System (DERMS), dynamic operating envelope engines, and associated integration environments to support growing DER penetration and real-time network visibility.
The role is responsible for the operational support and continuous improvement of Ausgrid's Itron CER platform (COTS application with multiple integrations) deployed on Microsoft Azure. This includes troubleshooting and resolving complex issues across applications, integrations, APIs, device onboarding, telemetry, event streaming, databases, Azure cloud services and operational processes. You will manage and optimise technologies spanning Azure Integration Services, Kubernetes/AKS, Kafka, databases (PostgreSQL, Azure SQL), networking, monitoring and observability platforms, identity and access management, PKI/certificate services, MTLS and disaster recovery solutions to ensure secure, resilient and reliable service delivery.
You will also support minimum system load events, Flexible Exports operations, device registration, telemetry accuracy, and OEM onboarding, while continuously optimising system configurations, monitoring processes, and the broader CER/DER technology stack to improve reliability and scalability.
What you bring to the role

To be successful, you will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or demonstrate equivalent capability through relevant experience and qualifications. You will bring extensive experience operating and managing control system technology and cloud services (Azure preferred) , along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritise effectively in complex operational environments. Your communication and collaboration skills will allow you to work confidently with both internal teams and external stakeholders to achieve operational outcomes.
This role is suited to a technology professional with a strong primary capability in either platform operations or systems integration, complemented by practical experience across production support, Azure cloud services, vendor-managed applications (COTS) and operational service delivery. The ideal candidate combines hands-on technical depth with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues that span applications, integrations, infrastructure and external partners. Experience in energy systems, DER/CER platforms or other critical operational environments will be highly regarded
Success in this role requires the ability to troubleshoot across multiple layers of the technology stack and coordinate effectively with vendors, OEMs, Solar retailers/ installers, cybersecurity, architecture and operational stakeholders to maintain platform stability, performance and scalability.
Desirable criteria
Experience with Databricks, data pipelines will be beneficial.
Experience within the utilities sector will be highly regarded, particularly exposure to DERMS platforms and CER/DER integration environments. Familiarity with the Common Smart Inverter Profile – Australia (CSIP-AUS), including inverter communications, dynamic operating envelopes, and grid interoperability, will be advantageous, as will experience supporting Virtual Power Plant portfolios.
