Role Description:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Commercial Officer to join us, supporting our Surface Ships - DSC West Commercial team in the commercial administration of the DSC-West contract and ancillary contract engagements. The successful candidate will report into the DSC-West Commercial Manager Lead and work with internal and external stakeholders to pursue the best commercial outcomes for the Program and the business whilst contributing to the support of the Australian Defence Force.
Core Duties:
Support the DSC-West Commercial Manager Lead in:
- Developing and maintaining the commercial relationship with the program delivery teams and customer community
- Assisting in the management and resolution of customer queries and issues in areas of responsibility, escalating problems to the Commercial Manager as appropriate
- Prepare bids in line with the Life Cycle Management and the Request for Bid Approval process
- Contribute to the administration of commercial contracts and the commercial elements of the Life Cycle Management and Request for Bid Approval process within their delegation
- Adopt clear understandings with suppliers of both technical and commercial issues to ensure that business arrangements minimise risk.
- Support Procurement and Supply Chain colleagues in the preparation of sub-contract terms and conditions as required
- Liaise with the internal legal, Insurance and Export Control teams as required to ensure all contracts have the necessary legal input/governance
- Manage the implementation of procedures and controls within the specified area to ensure compliance with commercial policies
- Seek and provide advice on commercial policy for managers and non-commercial staff making the case for the added value of these processes
- Prepare template updates to draft contracts / Confidentiality agreements with little supervision
About You:
- Previous experience in a commercial, finance or legal role
- A formal qualification in a business-related discipline or working towards one is desirable but not essential
- A curious mindset and ability to integrate and extract information
- Team orientation with a high level of written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders from all levels and from a range of disciplines
- Well organised, thorough and professional approach is essential, together with a high degree of motivation, initiative and enthusiasm
- An ability to work effectively under tight deadlines, and the capacity to perform effectively as part of a team, with minimum supervision is essential
- Practical and proactive: you can work in situations where not everything is defined yet, and you are happy to help bring clarity over time
- Intermediate PC skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of tools is essential
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain Government Security Clearance
- Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
