We’re growing our Data practice and looking for an experienced Senior Data Consultant to bring deep technical expertise and technical leadership to the design and delivery of modern data platforms for our customers.
We’re building modern data platforms using Databricks across AWS and Azure, helping customers get more value from their data through strong architecture, practical governance and quality engineering.
This isn’t a traditional architecture role. We’re looking for someone who enjoys shaping strategy and solving complex customer problems but still wants to remain close to the technology and hands-on in delivery.
Your work will span the full customer data journey – from leading data strategy and architecture workshops and reviewing existing Databricks platforms, through to working alongside the team to build and enhance the solutions you recommend.
The role will typically blend architecture and advisory work with hands-on engineering, with an approximate 60/40 split.
Idea 11 is an Australian-based, award-winning, full-stack IT consulting and managed services company specialising in cloud.
We are a values-driven organisation with a strong focus on delivering high-quality outcomes for our clients, while building a high-performing, collaborative and supportive team environment.
You’ll work directly with customers to design, review and evolve modern data platforms, with a strong focus on Databricks across AWS and Azure.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead data strategy, architecture and governance conversations with customers, from technical teams through to executive stakeholders.
- Review Databricks environments holistically, considering architecture, governance, security, performance, cost and operational maturity.
- Design secure, governed and scalable modern data platforms using Databricks, Unity Catalog and Delta Lake.
- Remain hands-on in delivery, building and improving data pipelines using Python/PySpark and SQL.
- Lead customer workshops and translate complex technical problems into practical recommendations and roadmaps.
- Produce high-quality technical documentation and review technical designs and customer deliverables.
- Mentor consultants and customers and contribute to the continued growth of our Data practice.
- Provide technical input into pre-sales, solution design and effort estimation where required.
You’re an experienced data professional with deep, recent hands-on Databricks experience and a strong background in data engineering.
You’re comfortable moving between strategy and delivery – leading a customer workshop or architecture review one day and working hands-on with data pipelines in Databricks the next.
You understand modern data platforms holistically, including architecture, governance, security, performance and cost. You’re curious, pragmatic and commercially aware, and you can explain complex technical concepts simply to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You’ll likely have experience working in consulting or another customer-facing environment and be comfortable building trusted relationships with senior customer stakeholders.
Most importantly, you still enjoy building and want to remain actively involved in technical delivery.
You’ll have deep hands-on experience with Databricks and modern data engineering, including Python/PySpark and SQL.
Experience with Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, Git and CI/CD is important, along with a strong understanding of data architecture and governance.
We’re building Databricks platforms across both AWS and Azure, so experience in either cloud is essential.
Power BI experience is also viewed favourably, but not essential.
Relevant Databricks, AWS and Microsoft certifications will be highly regarded, including Databricks Data Engineer Associate and/or Professional and Databricks Platform Architect accreditations.
We’re investing in and growing our Data practice, with a strong focus on Databricks across both AWS and Azure.
You’ll join a growing team and have the opportunity to influence our technical direction, mentor other consultants and help shape how we deliver modern data platforms for our customers.
You’ll work directly with customers on complex, real-world data challenges and have the freedom to move between strategic advisory, architecture and hands-on engineering.
If you’re looking for a senior data role where you can influence strategy without stepping away from delivery, we’d love to hear from you.
