Our Hotel
The Sydney Boulevard Hotel, a classic establishment near Sydney’s CBD, boasts 275 well-appointed guest rooms, 2 food and beverage outlets, and 11 function rooms.
We are dedicated to delivering exceptional guest experiences and maintaining high operational standards.
We are currently seeking a dedicated and dynamic Commis Chef to join our team, support our Head Chef, and help ensure guest requirements are always met with the delivery of exceptional experiences.
Job Description
What you will be doing/ Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Chief Engineer / Department Manager with the day-to-day maintenance requirements and general upkeep of the Hotel.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PM), general maintenance, repairs and maintenance tasks throughout the Hotel, including guest requests, in accordance with the Hotel's Property Management System (PMS) and HotSOS maintenance programs.
- Complete daily plant and facility inspections across front and back of house areas to identify, report and rectify faults, defects or maintenance issues.
- Perform general maintenance duties, including painting, wallpapering, touch-ups, grouting, sealing, air-conditioning unit maintenance, minor carpet repairs, lamp replacement and minor plumbing repairs.
- Carry out maintenance on equipment and water reticulation systems to ensure acceptable availability, reliability and operational performance.
- Ensure all equipment, tools and plant are maintained, used and stored correctly and safely.
- Prioritise and complete maintenance and repair requests within required timeframes, ensuring urgent and emergency issues are managed appropriately.
- Liaise with relevant departments regarding maintenance work in guest rooms, public areas and other Hotel facilities to ensure out-of-order areas are returned to service as soon as possible.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of maintenance activities, including repairs, preventative maintenance, outstanding tasks and daily activities, and complete relevant maintenance manuals and records.
- Monitor maintenance-related expenses and ensure purchases are necessary, appropriate and cost-effective.
- Work effectively with contractors, suppliers and service providers, maintaining professional and productive working relationships.
- Ensure all workplace health and safety policies, procedures and requirements are complied with at all times.
- Maintain the workshop and maintenance work areas in a safe, clean and organised condition.
- Perform duties on a shift roster basis, as required.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing maintenance priorities.
- Perform any other duties as reasonably requested by Management or Supervisors.
Qualifications
Minimum 12 years demonstrated experience in general building maintenance, preferably within a hotel, resort or hospitality environment.- Relevant trade qualifications include painting, air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, and mechanical malfunctions are desirable. Qualification or experience in Plumbing is preferred .
- Additional experience in the trades field including repairs, refurbishing, cleaning, heating and maintenance administration.
- Practical, hands-on approach with experience using a variety of hand tools and basic power tools.
- Basic computer skills and good written and spoken English.
- Sound understanding of workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements.
- Physically fit and capable of safely performing the duties of the role.
- Self-motivated, energetic and willing to learn, with a positive attitude and a strong focus on hotel operations.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrate initiative and effectively manage competing priorities.
- Strong time management and organisational skills, with the ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure.
- Service-oriented with strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with team members, management, contractors and people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Strong personal integrity and the ability to act as a role model.
- Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to embrace and respond effectively to change.
- Ability and willingness to work a variety of shifts across a seven-day roster.
Remuneration will be based upon current skill level and dependent on qualifications
