The Opportunity
Our Cloud Engineering team is growing and we are looking for a Principal Azure Cloud engineer to join our platform engineering journey. In this role, you have a unique opportunity to architect our foundational Azure platform, enabling our digital transformation.
Working in partnership with our cloud engineering team, you'll provide shared technical leadership and ownership of WorkCover's Microsoft Azure platform, helping shape the cloud foundations that underpin critical business services across the organisation.
This is a technical hands-on principal engineering role where you'll influence architecture, security, automation and governance while remaining close to the technology. You'll drive the evolution of our Azure Cloud Foundation, establish platform standards, embed infrastructure-as-code practices, and ensure our cloud environments remain secure, scalable and resilient.
You'll also play a key role in enabling a modern multi-cloud ecosystem, ensuring strong integration, networking and security alignment across both Azure and AWS environments.
In this role you'll:
- Lead the design, engineering and continuous improvement of WorkCover's Azure platform.
- Design and implement new workload by establishing golden patterns and automation
- Establish and maintain cloud architecture, governance and security standards.
- Develop and optimise infrastructure-as-code solutions using Terraform and related tooling.
- Drive platform automation, observability, finops and operational excellence.
- Provide expert guidance and escalation support for complex cloud incidents and technical challenges.
- Partner with engineering teams to embed DevOps, CI/CD and cloud best practices.
- Create reusable patterns, reference architectures and technical standards.
- Influence cloud strategy and mentor engineers across the broader technology function.
- Ensure secure and seamless connectivity between Azure and AWS environments.
A bit about you:
- Deep expertise designing, building Azure foundation and workload operating at enterprise-scale Azure environments.
- Extensive experience across cloud architecture, platform engineering, automation, compliance, security and governance.
- Strong hands-on capability with Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform and cloud automation tooling.
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
- Advanced knowledge of Azure identity, authentication, networking and security services.
- Experience working within hybrid and multi-cloud environments, with exposure to AWS highly regarded.
- The ability to influence technical direction, establish standards and mentor other engineers.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical outcomes.
