The Role
The Mine Development All Round Operator is responsible for delivering safe and efficient execution of site Mine Development, dewatering, and infrastructure works across the mining footprint.
The role provides hands-on capability to construct, maintain, and manage haul roads, drainage, dewatering systems, and site infrastructure, responsiveness, and quality of delivery.
This position plays a key role in supporting continuous mining operations by ensuring Mine Development works, access, and water management are planned, executed, and maintained in line with operational priorities.
This is a full-time, permanent position, on a 8/6 roster, ex FIFO from Perth to our Mt Holland Mine Site
Key Responsibilities
Operational Responsibilities
- Interpret designs, work area layouts and permit boundaries.
- Operate a range of equipment including haul trucks, graders, loaders, excavators, rollers, skid steers, watercarts, and telehandlers.
- Construct and maintain haul roads to operational standard (drainage, shape, trafficability).
- Install, operate, and maintain dewatering systems including pumps, pipelines, and sumps.
- Constructions of drains, sumps, turkey nests for the purpose of water management
- Carry out clearing, topsoil stripping, and basic earthworks in line with relevant permits and approvals
- Deliver small projects and NPI works within the mining footprint (pads, hardstands, laydowns).
- Maintain site infrastructure including signage, lighting towers, culverts, and drainage systems.
- Support drill & blast, mining, and processing with Mine Development works as required.
Financial/Budget
- Eliminate rework by through meticulous adherence to designs and permits
- Operate equipment efficiently to minimise fuel, wear, and rework.
- Identify practical improvements to reduce cost and improve producity.
- Avoid rework through correct dumping and material placement.
Team and Culture
- Collaborate with Mining, Environmental and NPI teams to deliver outcomes.
- Support training and upskilling across the Mine Development crew.
- Contribute to a team culture focused on safety, accountability, and timely execution.
Execution & Work Management
- Work across multiple active areas and prioritise tasks based on operational requirements.
- Take ownership of daily work fronts – plan, execute, and complete tasks autonnomously.
- Coordinate with Supervisors, Engineers, and other crews to align works with the mine plan.
- Provide clear handovers and updates between shifts to maintain continuity.
- Identify and escalate issues early (access, water, ground conditions, equipment).
Health, Safety, Environment and Community
- Work to Covalent’s Licence to Operate (Safety), Policies and Procedures.
- Complete pre-starts, JHAs, and risk assessments for all works.
- Identify and report hazards, incidents, and near misses immediately.
- Maintain high housekeeping and environmental standards across all Mine Development work areas.
- Ensure all works (drainage, dewatering, clearing) are compliant with approvals and site requirements.
Role Requirements
- Completed Year 10 or equivalent
- C Class Driver’s Licence (mandatory), HR License (preferred)
- Loader, Excavator, Skid Steer, Watercart, or Telehandler ticket(s)
- Working at Heights and Confined Space Entry (desirable)
- Basic Dewatering or Pump Operation training (advantageous)
- First Aid Certificate; Emergency Response training (desirable)
- 2+ years in mining or Mine Development site services, dewatering, or mobile plant operation.
- Demonstrated capability working across multiple work fronts with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work safely and productively in remote and arid environments.
