The School of Medical and Health Sciences
The School of Medical and Health Sciences is home to teaching and research in Medical and Biomedical Sciences, Allied Health, and Exercise and Sports Sciences, as well as in Public, Occupational and Environmental Health. Our world-class research is rapidly translated to provide solutions to some of the key health issues facing our community.
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Laboratory Technician, or individual with a relevant degree or discipline-specific experience, to join our technical support team. The role is responsible for the delivery of high-level laboratory and equipment advice and support services in both research and teaching laboratories and contributes to the provision of a safe laboratory environment for students and staff in Nutrition and Dietetics disciplines within Allied Health programs in the School.
About you
Our ideal candidate will meet the selection criteria:
Tertiary qualifications OR equivalent expertise gained from a combination of relevant qualifications and experience.
Demonstrable technical skills and experience in preparing for laboratory sessions and maintaining equipment particularly associated with Nutrition and Dietetics and/or across Allied Health disciplines.
Strong Occupational Safety and Health awareness with a demonstrated ability in the safe handling of hazardous substances and biological materials
Strong understanding of food safety standards, allergen management, and cross-contamination prevention.
Strong interest in nutrition and dietetics with the ability to cook confidently and safely and demonstrated ability to document procedures, risk assessments and guidelines for these activities
Ability to work across different discipline areas and adapt work hours to suit teaching class requirements.
Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Possess a valid Driver’s Licence.
Experience working in a food preparation environment or as nutritionist or dietitian would be highly regarded.
The roles are physically demanding due to the regular movement of equipment and materials.
Please note that this is not a biomedical position, but you may occasionally be required to assist in the biomedical discipline. You will also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry, Personal Excellence, Courage.
