About the position
The Administrative Assistant will be a person who identifies as Indigenous and provides a range of administrative services for a collaborative research translation project, funded by the Medical Research Future Fund, that seeks to co-design, implement and evaluate culturally tailored caseload midwifery care for women having a First Nations baby in health services across Victoria. Caseload midwifery is a model of care where women receive pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatal care from a primary midwife (with one or two back up midwives).
This position has been developed to enable an entry-level First Nations Administrative Assistant to gain experience in project administration and operational support. The overall purpose is to receive administrative training in a supported research environment, contribute to the project aims, and to support the cultural competency component of the project.
The First Nations Administrative Assistant will join a dedicated team of Indigenous and non-Indigenous researchers working on improving maternity care provision, health outcomes and care experiences for women having a First Nations baby. The position will be based within the Judith Lumley Centre (for women, children and family health research) in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at La Trobe’s Bundoora campus.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have:
- Performs duties at a skill level which requires completion of year 12 or Certificate II, or relevant work experience.
- Good communication skills, including verbal, written, listening, interpreting and nonverbal skills.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain accurate records in a timely manner.
- Basic computing skills, with competence in Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge and understanding of First Nations contexts, particularly relating to factors which impact upon the health and wellbeing of First Nations peoples.
- Interest in First Nations health, women’s health and/or health research
