Industrial Engineer
About Pristine Foods
Pristine Foods is a South Australian food manufacturing and innovation business providing contract manufacturing, food processing, product development and packaging solutions across a broad range of food categories. Our manufacturing operations combine specialised processing equipment, packaging technology, quality systems and practical production expertise to deliver safe, consistent and high quality products for our customers.
As our manufacturing operations continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Industrial Engineer to help us improve the efficiency, reliability and performance of our production processes, equipment, facilities and manufacturing resources.
About the role
This is a practical engineering role based within our manufacturing environment.
You will work closely with production, maintenance, quality, supply chain and management teams to analyse how our people, equipment, materials and manufacturing processes work together and identify opportunities to improve productivity, capacity, quality and operational efficiency.
The position will contribute to both existing manufacturing operations and future production improvements, including new equipment, process changes, production layouts and manufacturing projects.
Key responsibilities
- Analyse manufacturing processes, production schedules, operational data, labour utilisation, equipment performance and production costs to identify opportunities for improved efficiency.
- Review the utilisation of production personnel, plant, machinery, facilities and materials and recommend improvements to manufacturing operations.
- Conduct work measurement and process studies to establish appropriate production methods, labour requirements, production standards and operating efficiencies.
- Analyse production line capacity, equipment utilisation, production downtime, throughput and workflow to identify constraints and improve overall plant performance.
- Review factory and production layouts and recommend improvements to equipment positioning, work areas, material movement and production flow.
- Analyse the movement of raw materials, ingredients, packaging materials, work in progress and finished products throughout the manufacturing process.
- Develop engineering specifications and requirements for manufacturing equipment, machinery, production processes and plant improvements.
- Assist with the selection, installation, commissioning, modification and improvement of food processing and packaging equipment.
- Evaluate existing production equipment and manufacturing processes and recommend modifications or engineering solutions to improve capacity, reliability, safety and efficiency.
- Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives designed to reduce waste, downtime, unnecessary movement and production bottlenecks.
- Work with production and maintenance teams to investigate equipment performance issues and identify practical engineering solutions.
- Establish and review engineering standards and procedures for equipment installation, modification, inspection, testing, operation and maintenance.
- Assist with preventative maintenance planning and analyse equipment performance to support reliable and efficient manufacturing operations.
- Inspect plant, equipment and production systems to ensure appropriate performance and identify areas requiring modification, maintenance or improvement.
- Participate in manufacturing improvement and capital equipment projects, including project planning, equipment requirements, supplier coordination, installation and commissioning.
- Coordinate the engineering requirements associated with new machinery, production lines, equipment upgrades and changes to manufacturing processes.
- Analyse production data and prepare reports on capacity, productivity, equipment efficiency, labour utilisation, waste and manufacturing performance.
- Work closely with quality and production teams to ensure engineering improvements support product quality, food safety and consistent manufacturing outcomes.
- Support trials and scale up activities associated with new products, processing methods, equipment and packaging formats.
- Identify opportunities to improve the cost effective use of labour, equipment, energy, materials and other manufacturing resources.
About you
We are looking for someone who enjoys being close to manufacturing operations and solving practical engineering problems.
You will ideally have:
- A Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Relevant professional experience within industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, process improvement or a similar production environment.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, production planning, plant operations and industrial engineering principles.
- Experience analysing production capacity, labour utilisation, equipment efficiency, manufacturing costs and operational performance.
- Experience conducting process analysis, workflow studies, time and work measurement and continuous improvement activities.
- Good understanding of production equipment, manufacturing layouts, material flow and plant optimisation.
- Experience participating in equipment installation, modification, commissioning or manufacturing improvement projects.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to interpret production and operational data.
- Good project planning and organisational skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production employees, maintenance personnel, suppliers, contractors and management.
- A practical approach to identifying problems and developing solutions that can be successfully implemented in a working manufacturing environment.
Experience within food manufacturing, FMCG, food processing, packaging or another high volume manufacturing environment would be highly regarded.
