About the Role
Water Corporation is seeking an experienced and motivated Customer Systems Product Engineer to join our Customer Systems Product Engineering team. This is a 10-month fixed term contract with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.
This role is critical in ensuring the stability, performance, support, and continuous improvement of systems that directly support customer services across the organisation.
You will play a key role in delivering system enhancements, supporting enterprise applications, analysing business and technical requirements, and working closely with business and technical stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes. This position is ideally suited to someone with a strong Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Systems Engineering background who enjoys combining technical expertise with business engagement.

What the Role Will Involve
In this role, you will support the end-to-end delivery and ongoing support of customer-facing systems, ensuring they are reliable, secure, efficient, and aligned to business needs.
Key Accountabilities

Application Delivery – Deliver system enhancements, upgrades, and maintenance across the SDLC, from requirements through to deployment and support.

Stakeholder Engagement – Collaborate with business stakeholders, technical teams, and vendors to deliver solutions that meet business needs.

Application Support – Ensure system availability, stability, security, and performance through proactive monitoring and issue resolution.
-
Service Management – Manage incidents, problems, changes, releases, and service transitions in line with organisational processes.

Governance & Risk – Ensure compliance with security, architecture, governance, and risk management requirements.

Quality & Testing – Coordinate testing, quality assurance, and solution reviews to ensure reliable outcomes.

Continuous Improvement – Identify and implement opportunities to improve systems, processes, and service delivery.
Key Skills & Experience
-
Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent industry experience.
-
Experience delivering and supporting enterprise applications across the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
-
Experience in application support and ITIL-based service management practices, including incident, problem, change, and release management.
-
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across business, technical, and vendor teams.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
-
Understanding of software development, testing, quality assurance, and production deployment practices.

Knowledge of enterprise application architectures, integrations, databases (including SQL), networking fundamentals, and cloud/on-premises environments.

Understanding of information security, identity and access management, and technology governance principles.

Experience driving continuous improvement, service optimisation, and operational excellence initiatives.

Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a complex, fast-paced environment.
Desirable Experience
The following experience will be highly regarded:

Experience working within highly regulated environments, preferably in utilities, customer service, or large enterprise organisations.

Experience supporting customer systems such as billing, metering, CRM platforms, customer portals, digital customer platforms, or similar enterprise applications.

Demonstrated experience working in Agile delivery environments and participating in sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, retrospectives, and continuous improvement activities.

Experience working within Agile frameworks such as Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe.

Experience supporting cloud-based platforms and services such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or similar technologies.

Experience working with APIs, integrations, and middleware platforms.

Certifications such as ISTQB (Software Testing), IREB (Requirements Engineering), Agile Business Analysis, Scrum Master, Product Owner, or equivalent certifications.
