Introduction:
About Us
For over 65 years, JK Williams has been more than a civil contractor — we’ve been builders of communities, forgers of lasting relationships, and dedicated to establishing a legacy of excellence across Australia’s east coast.
As a proud family-owned business, we know that our greatest asset isn’t the machinery we operate or the infrastructure we deliver — it’s our people. The dedication, expertise, and commitment of our team is what has made us a recognised leader in civil construction and infrastructure, known for innovation, quality, and integrity.
Our rich history hasn’t just shaped who we are — it’s positioned us for an exciting future. And we want the right people alongside us for the journey.
Description:
JK Williams is now accepting Expressions of Interest from Year 10, 11 and 12 students for one-week work experience placements in civil construction.
Are you curious about a career in civil construction? We're opening our doors to high school students who want real, hands-on exposure to the industry. Depending on your interests, you could spend your week alongside our teams in:
- Pipe laying
- Plant mechanics
- Surveying
- Concreting
You'll shadow our crews on site (and in the workshop), take part in supervised day-to-day tasks, and get a genuine feel for what a career in civil construction looks like.

- Who can apply: Students currently in Year 10, 11 or 12
- Location: Varies depending on the role and active site — see note below

What you'll need to provide
Before your placement can be confirmed, we'll need the following from you and your school:
- School-arranged insurance — Most schools automatically cover students with personal accident and public liability insurance for approved work placements. Please check with your school's Work Experience Coordinator or Careers Advisor to confirm this is arranged before your start date.
- Work Experience Placement/Arrangement Form — Completed and signed by you, a parent/guardian, your school, and JK Williams. Your school will usually provide this template.
- Parent/guardian consent — Signed consent as part of the above form.
- Site safety induction — All students must complete our site/workshop safety induction on their first morning before setting foot on an active site. A White Card (General Construction Induction) is preferred — if you already hold one, please mention this in your EOI. Students without one can still apply, as placements are supervised, but let us know either way so we can plan accordingly.
- Emergency contact and medical/dietary information — So we can keep you safe and comfortable during your week with us.
- Appropriate PPE and dress — Steel-capped/safety boots, long pants, and a collared shirt are essential. Hi-vis, hard hat, safety glasses and gloves will be provided on site where required.
- Own transport — Placements are based on current project sites, which change regularly and may not be accessible by public transport. Students need to arrange their own transport to and from site each day.
Please note: JK Williams cannot confirm a placement until your school's insurance and paperwork have been finalised. It's your responsibility to organise this with your school's Careers/VET Coordinator ahead of your placement date.
