About VELO
VELO Automotive Logistics is a growing vehicle transport and logistics company servicing automotive manufacturers, dealerships, automotive groups, ports, vehicle compounds and logistics facilities.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for a reliable and experienced Truck Driver to operate an 8-car carrier within our Melbourne operation.
This is predominantly a local Melbourne position, with regional Victoria work and occasional interstate trips as required.
There is plenty of overtime available for drivers who want additional hours and the opportunity to earn strong weekly wages.
Previous car carrying experience is preferred; however, it is not essential. We are prepared to train the right experienced heavy vehicle driver on the car-carrying side of the role.
Road Ranger experience, however, is an absolute must.
The Role
You will primarily be responsible for operating an 8-car carrier throughout Melbourne.
Your duties will include:
- Operating an 8-car carrier throughout Melbourne metro
- Collecting and delivering new and used vehicles
- Dealership and automotive group deliveries
- Port and vehicle compound collections
- Loading and unloading vehicles safely and efficiently
- Correctly positioning vehicles across the carrier
- Operating hydraulic decks, ramps and associated carrier equipment
- Correctly securing vehicles before transport
- Conducting vehicle condition inspections before loading and after unloading
- Identifying and reporting pre-existing vehicle damage
- Completing multi-drop dealership delivery runs
- Completing daily truck and trailer pre-start checks
- Maintaining accurate delivery paperwork and records
- Communicating with VELO operations throughout the day
- Keeping the truck, trailer and equipment clean and presentable
- Reporting mechanical defects or equipment issues immediately
- Regional Victoria work when required
- Occasional interstate work when required
- Complying with fatigue management, Chain of Responsibility, NHVR and company safety requirements
Essential Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- Current Australian heavy vehicle licence suitable for the combination
- Proven Road Ranger / non-synchro manual gearbox experience – MANDATORY
- Strong heavy vehicle driving experience
- Good driving record
- Ability to provide a current Driver History Report
- Good understanding of fatigue management and heavy vehicle safety requirements
- Good communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Reliable and punctual work ethic
- Ability to work independently
- Good spatial awareness
- Ability to safely perform the physical requirements involved in loading and unloading vehicles
- Australian working rights
- Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical if required
Car Carrying Experience
Previous car carrying experience is preferred but is NOT essential.
We are willing to train the right experienced heavy vehicle driver.
If you haven’t driven a car carrier before, we’re looking for someone who already has:
- Strong Road Ranger experience
- Confidence operating heavy vehicle combinations
- Good spatial awareness
- Mechanical aptitude
- A careful approach to vehicles and equipment
- Patience when loading and unloading
- Willingness to learn
- The ability to follow loading and safety procedures
Experience operating 6, 7 or 8-car carriers will be highly regarded.

- Previous car carrier / vehicle transport experience
- Experience operating multi-car carriers
- Automotive logistics experience
- Dealership delivery experience
- Port or vehicle compound experience
- Current MSIC
- Experience with vehicle restraint and load-securing systems
- MC licence
- Interstate driving experience
- Experience transporting new, prestige or high-value vehicles

Work Type
This position is predominantly local Melbourne work.
The majority of your day will involve collections and deliveries throughout Melbourne, including dealerships, automotive compounds, storage facilities and vehicle terminals.
There will also be regional Victorian work and occasional interstate trips depending on operational requirements.
This is not primarily an interstate position.
