Do you have experience in the geospatial processing of large environmental datasets and/or the development of hydraulic models for river and floodplain systems? Would you like to use your skills to improve our natural environment?
The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) has an exciting opportunity for an early career Hydraulic Modeller to join our Water for the Environment Knowledge team to provide modelling support to inform our management of environmental water across the NSW Murray-Darling Basin.
The successful applicant will work collaboratively with staff across DCCEEW and other NSW government agencies to undertake hydraulic modelling of large river and floodplain systems to support improved river and wetland health outcomes. You will be working alongside more senior staff and have the opportunity to build your skills in the fields of environmental and water modelling, and on large projects of State significance.
About You
Your tertiary qualifications, skills and knowledge of water modelling and geospatial analysis will help build your success in this role. You bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities while delivering quality outcomes. You enjoy working as part of a team, sharing knowledge and contributing to innovative solutions that support informed environmental decision-making.
Ideal candidate profile:
- Relevant scientific or engineering qualifications and experience in geospatial data processing and/or development of hydraulic models, preferably for large river and floodplain systems on lowland rivers, or eco-hydraulic applications.
- Experience in the writing of technical reports and presenting work to project partners and stakeholders.
- Experience working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams and organisations to deliver successful projects.
- Self-motivated and eager to contribute to team outcomes through innovation and the development of technical skills in spatial data management (including programming) and modelling software.
- Experience in hydraulic modelling using TUFLOW is highly desirable.
