About Bueno
We are a 12-year-old mission-driven company dedicated to accelerating the built environment’s transition to Net Zero.
We connect to modern building systems (such as HVAC, lifts, fire, and refrigeration) to gather massive datasets that are currently under-utilised. Using advanced analytics and AI, we identify inefficiencies and faults in these systems that save our customers money, prevent failures and significantly reduce utility consumption. Given the built environment is accountable for 40% of the world’s emissions, we have the ability to make a tangible difference through our technology.
Our client list includes industry giants like Disney, Woolworths, Westfield, Target (US), and huge European retailers .
We are currently on the cusp of a massive growth phase, aiming to 5x our business over the next 3 years as we tackle the North American refrigeration market, thanks to our recent acquisition by Copeland - a global leader in refrigeration and controls.
We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Analytics Feature Team . Historically, our analytics rules were written by domain experts and data scientists. As we scale to handle 10x the data volume, we need a software engineering mindset to take ownership of this engine and help improve its scalability while keeping a lid on complexity.
You won't just be writing business logic; you will be building a scalable, maintainable, and observable system . You will bridge the gap between complex building physics and high-performance software engineering, ensuring our analytics engine (running on Kubernetes and Docker) can handle our rapid expansion.
Scale the Analytics Engine: Work on our core Python-based engine that processes massive streams of building data. You will help us continue our mission to build robust, production-grade software.
Engineering Excellence: Champion software best practices, observability, testing, and maintainability. You will help structure the code so that it is performant, testable and (hopefully) bug-free.
Collaborate & Mentor: Work alongside data scientists and domain experts, helping them adopt better engineering cultures and practices.
Infrastructure & DevOps: Utilise our Kubernetes-native, autoscaling Docker container environment. While we have platform engineers, we encourage an "end-to-end ownership" culture where you understand how your code deploys and runs.
Innovation: We are actively integrating AI (Gemini, Transformers) into our workflow to automate ticket descriptions and insights. You’ll have the freedom to innovate and explore new tools, in addition to joining other feature teams in the future to expand your horizons.
Core for this role: Python (Pandas, NumPy, PyTorch).
Infrastructure: Kubernetes, Docker, Google Cloud, Pub/Sub Queues.
Broader Stack (Good to know): Kotlin, Spring Boot (used for main APIs), PostgreSQL, Time-series databases.
Front End (for context): Next.js, React, TypeScript.
A Software Engineer at Heart: You aren't just a script-writer; you understand how to build systems that last. You value clean code, architecture, and scalability over quick fixes. You are willing to take a club to complexity wherever you find it.
Python Proficient: You have strong experience with Python, specifically with data-heavy libraries like Pandas or NumPy. Note: If you are a strong Java/Kotlin engineer willing to learn and work primarily in Python, we are open to that too.
Not a "CRUD" Developer: You want to solve hard technical challenges regarding performance and scale, rather than just building API endpoints.
Team Player: You are comfortable working in a small, agile feature team (typically ~4 engineers, a lead, and a product manager) where you have high autonomy and impact.
Purpose-driven: Your time and effort is incredibly precious; we want to make sure it is turned towards something more valuable than making people buy stuff they don’t need. Work with us if you care about using your skills and experience to make the world a slightly less unsustainable place.
Massive Impact: Your code directly contributes to reducing carbon emissions globally.
Growth Phase: We are acquiring major US contracts and expanding in Europe thanks to our recent acquisition by Copeland. This is a rare chance to join a mature startup on the cusp of exploding scale.
Culture: We operate with "Feature Teams" that own their delivery end-to-end. We avoid silos and encourage engineers to touch the whole stack.
