About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join our team on a 6-month contract, with the potential for extension. Reporting directly to the Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of end-to-end fortnightly payroll for approximately 500 employees across Australia and New Zealand.
This role is ideal for a detail-oriented payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a strong understanding of payroll compliance and legislation across both Australia and New Zealand.
Key Responsibilities
- Process in-house end-to-end fortnightly payroll for Australian employees using Oracle EBS 12.2.10 and support outsourced New Zealand payroll through Smartly
- Ensure payroll accuracy and compliance with relevant legislation, employment agreements and awards, and company policies across Australia and New Zealand
- Manage payroll obligations including STP2 payroll reporting, PAYGW, superannuation, payroll tax, salary sacrifice contributions, workers compensation, child support, leave entitlements and garnishees
- Prepare and reconcile payroll reports, supporting month-end and year-end processes including reconciliations, tax filings, and superannuation contributions.
- Process employee terminations, redundancies, final payments, long service leave and other entitlements.
- Respond to payroll enquiries and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Support workers compensation reporting and wage estimations across Australia.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure compliance with audit requirements.
- Collaborate with HR, Finance and external stakeholders to ensure smooth payroll operations.
- Assist with payroll system improvements and process optimisation initiatives.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Stay up to date with payroll legislation and regulatory changes across Australia and New Zealand, including minimum wages, tax rates, KiwiSaver, Superannuation and other payroll requirements.
- Prepare and submit payroll reporting requirements to relevant authorities including the ATO and IRD (NZ).
- Interpret and apply Australian and New Zealand employment legislation, including KiwiSaver, ACC levies, leave entitlements, holiday pay calculations, and other statutory requirements.
- Complete ad hoc payroll projects as required
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in end-to-end payroll processing.
- Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
- Working knowledge of New Zealand payroll legislation, including KiwiSaver, ACC levies and statutory leave entitlements.
- Experience interpreting awards, enterprise agreements and employment legislation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Desirable
- Experience with Oracle EBS and/or Workday experience.
- Experience working within ERP systems.
- Payroll qualification or certification.
- Experience processing payroll within medium to large organisations.
