We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Analyst to provide specialist systems, data and technology services within ASIC's Markets Group. This role will suit a technically strong and collaborative analyst who can work across analytics platforms, complex market data, technology projects and stakeholder groups to strengthen ASIC's understanding of Australian financial markets, products and participant behaviour.

The team
Market Intelligence sits within the Markets Systems team in ASIC's Markets Group. The Markets Group is responsible for ensuring investors have confidence in Australia's financial markets and that market participants, infrastructure providers and gatekeepers operate with integrity, resilience and transparency. The Markets Group regulates financial markets and participants by closely working with government, industry and internal stakeholders to support market integrity, resilience and transparency.
The Market Intelligence team develops and maintains the systems, datasets and tools that enhance the capabilities of the Markets Group - uplifting AI usage, data mindset, strategy and culture across the division. The team also support evidence-based market structure policy making, thematic reviews and innovative research on market structure and integrity issues.
The role
As a Senior Data Analyst, you will provide specialist systems, data and technology services to support the work of Markets Group. You will lead and contribute to data, analytics and technology initiatives that strengthen regulatory insights, improve business support for analytics platforms and help deliver key Markets Group priorities. In this role you will also,
- Identify and assess evolving trends, systemic misconduct and emerging risks across Australian financial markets.
- Provide leadership across technology systems projects, including stakeholder management and governance processes.
- Work closely with stakeholders to deliver business priorities through effective support for analytics platforms and applications.
- Identify new ways to use data to deliver priorities, including the collection, management, analysis and communication of insights through reports, briefings, presentations and data visualisations.
- Model large datasets from multiple sources, conduct quantitative market analysis and develop methods and tools to monitor market integrity metrics.
- Provide support and guidance for analytics projects, including advising on processes to collect, clean and explore data, while mentoring staff and supporting capability uplift.
About you
You will bring relevant tertiary qualifications and strong experience in analytics, data platforms, architectures and tools, including hands-on implementation experience with big data and data visualisation technologies. You have a proven track record delivering technical projects, including defining, planning and managing vendors, and ideally bring a background in financial markets with technical knowledge of financial products, trading strategies and standards such as FiX. You also have experience working with IT governance, risk management and enterprise architecture frameworks, strong statistical, programming and quantitative skills, ideally including R or Python, and the ability to work with large, complex datasets from multiple markets, vendors and proprietary sources.
You are a confident communicator who can explain complex concepts clearly, influence stakeholders, facilitate discussions and prepare high-quality reports and briefings for a range of audiences. You bring sound judgement, strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving capability, supported by business acumen and an understanding of Australian financial markets and the regulatory environment. You can adapt quickly, build productive stakeholder relationships, influence outcomes, manage projects and risks, and help drive a best-practice culture and capability uplift within the team.
